Trade Rumor From NBADraft.Net Involving Andre Iguodala And The #3 Pick

I must say that I always wanted the jazz to get iggy whilst we had dwill - obviously he would have been a major upgrade over bell!!!

Agreed. I think trading for Iguodala is a day late and a buck short -- last summer was when we needed to trade for him. I thought that after the Jefferson deal, a deal involving (but not limited to) Andrei for Andre was one of the only moves out there (and also reasonably attainable) that would put us into contention. I didn't think wed do something like that because we were rolling off the Jefferson high and the FO would be content with stabilizing the ship for the next couple years simply with Jefferson. To take him last year would have been a huge financial burden, but I think would have been a necessary one because Jeferson alone wouldn't make us that much better but taking someone like AI would push us into having a real shot, despite it being bad in a long-term financial sense.

In any regard, it'd be reasonable to take Iguodala if there were then a deal in place such as sending out Harris and receiving Nash (in principle). I think that would get us a legit shot at contention, but would have only a two year window. If it is just Iguodala and no other major moves, this would all just amount to an exercise of mental masturbation and pontification.

Well Iggy is not super old right now 27. Harris is 28,Jefferson 26,Millsap 26,Ak 30. He would fit right in. No reason age should matter in this discussion.

And most of those players are too old too. Harris is certainly not your PG on a championship team considering his game is built on speed and he'll be either gone or well past 30 if that were to ever happen and AK shouldn't be brought back. I don't want to rant about Jefferson, but you might be able to turn him into something and his game would age well. Millsap's worked to turn his game into something that ages well.

Which brings up my next point; Iggy is basically a high-level hustle-player. He's able to produce the way he does because he's been explosive and can also handle the ball. His game will not age well. Right now, we're looking at a player that relies on his athletic advantage and has had some significant injuries in his legs and 27 years old isn't exactly YOUNG in this league either. He's on a massive contract too.

I like Iggy. I hate his contract and how he fits in on a team that is or clearly should be going young. That trumps how much I like him.

38 minutes a game for 7 years. And this year he has an achilles problem and an inflammation of a chronic knee problem he's had for 5 years and finally couldn't play through. I don't want to find out what's under that hood.

Ray Allen was once traded by the Sonics to the Celtics for the #5 or #6 player in the draft, which turned out to be Jeff Green. The Celtics were totally motivated to do this because it meant they could complete a trade with Minnesota for Kevin Garnett.

Iggy isn't worth #3. That rumor is just a terrible trade idea.

Ray Allen is also a guy whose effectiveness is not directly tied to athleticism. Acquiring the sweetest shooter in the game makes sense at almost any age. Without his full athleticism, Iggy is very ordinary.

I'll again reiterate that this is BS. You don't make large decisions like this on the off-chance that a month later you'll be able to negotiate with these RFAs to get the ball rolling on the deal. The two sides can agree, but if the FAs don't agree, then no dice, and they certainly are forbidden from even discussing the issue with them at the time you'd have to make decisions for this deal. If we do draft Kanter then yes we can hold onto him and keep the options open later when negotiations begin with FAs, but to make the decision solely on that is asinine.

Have you seen Iggy's contract?

Have you seen his age?

You are a Jazz fan, right? So why would we want to give up assets for an aging overpaid vet? If we were maybe the Celtics or Lakers, this might be a good trade since the time to compete for a championship is now.

But we aren't.

We're rebuilding. We should be doing the exact opposite of this trade. Getting younger, gathering assets, shedding salary, and building for the FUTURE.

This. and rep'd

This is going to be fun isn't it? The first of a hundred rumors we will hear over the next month and look how excited everybody got.
