For some reason picks seem to be considered gold right now. The draft is hit and miss. We should know this. If you look through the drafts there are a lot of players that don’t turn into much that are drafted high. Exum was a 4th pick I remember and look how that turned out.

I think picks are actually thrown out there more than in past. Several all in Brooklyn style trades that have happened the last 3-4 years. Where unprotected picks were handed out. Those were rare for a while. I think once the Lakers, Clips, etc have handed in several lotto picks that it will decrease the frequency with which those are handed out.

Here is a Portland trade idea that everyone (mostly) can hate. Royce to Portland for the #36 pick. They have a trade exception to use to take his salary in. Drops us under the tax. They need rotation pieces and Royce is that.

Who would we be looking for at #36? A few decent guys that could be in that range would be Procida, Minott and Montero.

Teams that want to recruit Zach Lavine in free agency might overpay in a trade for another star player in order to attract Lavine to their destination. Atlanta appears to be one of those teams. San Antonio could be another. Gobert could fit on either team.

I think this is what we're looking for, an overpay scenario for Gobert. Not that Lavine is like Kawhi or anything.

If our players are all really not worth a **** as it seems the more people talk here than the Jazz oughta just blow this mother up. By the time we are done wheeling and dealing we will be worst than before and still be working with mud round picks. The draft pretty consistently puts out good players in the top ten. After that you gotta get lucky. **** players and mid picks that require luck sounds like a long rebuild. Pull off the band aid already.

I think there is a huge error in thinking our team is the same team that had the best record in the nba a couple years ago. The thought is that our Stars are all that matter. It’s not true… look at our top 2 guys versus the top 2 guys from other teams.

Then you add in that we lost Ingles… all of our role players that are critical to our success are aging… some rapidly. Run it back next year and we go from the 5th seed to what..6/7 maybe? Do we pay tax for that? How good are they when we make moves to cut the tax?

Like the road was always uphill but now it’s an uphill battle and we have a few 45 lb plates to carry… good luck.

Our guys have value… we could get some picks… but if you trade actual players for picks then those guys aren’t going to get good enough fast enough to produce in Rudy and Dons window.

The problem is we want to trade our good players for better players or players that are as good just different… well those trades don’t happen unless someone has a bad contract or is unhappy etc. Add to this that we’d like to get good players while cutting salary… it’s a plan that has little chance of working.

For one, why would they want Conley if they have Lillard and for two they don’t have enough cap space for that deal.

Bledsoe is only guaranteed $3.9 million, and I would take Conley over him all day. Bojan is a great floor spacer for Lillard.

Conley and Bojan for Bledsoe and #7 isn't ideal, but depends on how desperate Portland is for quality vets.

If we run it back next year, I think we will almost certainly be a play-in team. Suns, Warriors, Grizzlies, Mavs, Nuggets and Clippers should all be better than us. Depending on what moves the T-Wolves and Pelicans make, they could pass us by as well. Ryan Smith may choose to run it back instead of blowing it up because of the all-star game, but there is a chance that our record is poor enough that we won't have any all-stars anyway.

If the Jazz trade Gobert to CHA, they could offer Bogdanovic and CHA's #15 pick for #7. That might be close enough that a tweak here and there would make the deal work.
