My worry is that we will make sub-optimal moves in order to acquire win-now pieces that will lose long-term value and IMO it's the long-term value we should be concerned with now. We are not winning anything with this team any time soon.

That's the thing. How much time do you think we have before Mitchell asks out? Is it even feasible to attempt retool if Mitchell won't allow Ainge the time to do his thing or in worst case scenario he gives him time without asking out but then just leaves in FA Hayward-style for nothing? You know what... next year Mitchell becomes eligible for extension. If I'm Ainge I offer him the max I can possibly offer and if he refuses to sign it, he's gone. I just don't trust a word coming out of his mouth, so I will have to judge his actions.

It’s just having a little self awareness in where we are and then doing what we need to long term.

He hasn’t exactly had the best supporting cast built around him and I wouldn’t even say they really built around him. Even then we were a game or two away from the WCF.

Jazz don't have the assets to acquire great pieces to put around Donovan. And trying to build a team around Donovan as the lone star player is like trying to build a team around Kyrie. It won't go far.

Here is our best lineup right now: Mitchell / Clarkson / Bojan / Vanderbilt / Udoka with Beverly, Butler, Beasley, Gay and Kessler off the bench. How many games do you think that team wins? Maybe 30 at best? Now that Gobert is gone, you're going to see just how rough that is.

If the Jazz traded Gobert for OG/GTJ and traded Bojan and a pick for John Collins, then our lineup would be Mitchell / GTJ / OG / Collins / Udoka. That would be a 35 - 40-win team and probably an 8-seed. Instead of going that route, the Jazz are blowing it up.

Exactly. Which is why you need to draft 3 lottery guys hoping that one of them really hits. There's really no other path.

Well we already did it once and some of my favorite times were when we were sucking *** with the core 4. I had tons of fun watching favors, kanter, hayward, and burks and dreaming of what they could become (they become nothing lol.)

That's my point. We didnt get a ring. That said I really wonder what the financial side would look at a full rebuild vs. Retooling.

How long was Memphis in the lotto? OKC will be out after this year most likely. Hit on one pick in the high end of the lotto… hit on one middle round pick and you are solid… especially if you have a **** ton of capital stacked up.

Even the sixers as many dumb things as they had happened had like three bad seasons? We also aren’t trading in a second round team… we are trading in a first round team at best.

The Grizzlies were in the lottery 3 years in a row and they are the best case scenario for this.

Philadelphia was in the lottery 6 years in a row lmao.

The team won’t be mediocre if we trade for Ayton amongst other moves.

Mitchell and ayton isn't winning ****. We just traded Gobert in the division, it's absolutely insane to think our best play is to try to win now.

It's also going to cause the Jazz to miss out on maximizing return on Bogey, not let them take back bad salary, etc all for a guy who is definitely going to ask out in the next year if he hasn't already.

They’re already 3 years into their rebuild. This is year 4.

This is year 3… they were a 4/5 seed in the bubble and almost beat Houston 2 years ago. If they hit on Chet or any of their other picks they come out the rebuild with Chet, SGA, Giddey, Dort, a high pick in 23, cap flexibility and a crap ton of future picks… they didn’t even get that much luck. A top 5 pick in this year’s draft should net a great building block.

I think there is still hope from many fans and the jazz organization that Donovan is a foundation player to build with. Im on the fence on that one. At one time I was certain he was, now im less certain but still think he might could be.

Honestly, I think Donovan still can be. Half the people in Utah that have soured on Don have done so due to his outspoken politics and the other half took Rudy’s side in the power struggle.

I’m not saying Don has done everything right, but I think he’s still the guy we were hoping he could be. Now that the Jazz have officially picked their direction, I expect an all star piece to be added before the offseason is over and a rejuvenated Donovan for 2022-23.

Sure. But nobody was talking about Jokic as a completely unique multi-MVP candidate either. I’m aware that such an argument can also be made for your position, but my position is that more picks that are higher in the draft always increase your odds of finding top-tier talent. Because it does.
