I think that Lauri's play has moved our timeline WAY up. Kessler balling it up hasn't hurt that either. Why fail for 3 years waiting for a Lauri when you have one already and when you can pair him with Kessler now? Cashing in some picks to get a young 2nd star now would make plenty of sense. We would still have plenty of pieces to build from. If you have the assett available that you want to pair with Lauri, then do it.

Also, this one goes out to the contrarian awareness club. I blocked the all holy Saint Cy years ago. It has been great. I just happened to open jazzfanz up without logging in and read a few posts. Where would the Lakers' season be now if they had Conley, Bojan and Clarkson/Beasley instead of Westbrook?

I was just thinking about that earlier. Both teams would’ve had dramatically different starts to their seasons.

Yeah....but how horrifying would it be if he proves to be a starting level player and we have a starting level player as our 6th man?

I've never been the biggest Sexton fan, and for the most part I think he is who he is. He is a solid 6th man type who provides a scoring punch. But he's only just turned 24 and he may not be a finished product. I don't see issue with giving him that chance to develop, in fact, I think it's something we should prioritize with the remainder of the season. He played well for 10 games and so did the rest of the team with him, lets see if he can do it for another 32 games to better know what we have.

Getting NAW inked on a 4yr deal should definitely be a priority but I think odds are he takes the qualifying offer if we offer it or if we don't he is gone for sure. There is no way that he doesn't have a sour taste already with the way Hardy has treated him and it doesn't look like that is going to change. You can't blame him either. He plays really well and gets benched for no reason. Luckily he seems to be a great teammate or probably would have already asked to be traded since this is his contract year.

What has he shown to deserve a 4 year extension lol

The bigger problem is trying to shoehorn a 23yr old player with tons of talent into a specific role at such a young age. We all saw when Conley went down and Sexton stepped in as the starting pg he played really well. That should have opened some people's eyes a little bit to how he can grow as a player. Worst case scenario he goes back to being a 6th man but has a little bit more experience breaking down the defense to set up his teammates rather than just looking to score. Best case scenario you have a damn good starting pg. As far as I'm concerned it is a win win.

I'm fine with it... think I even said its a win-win type scenario. I think its also okay to acknowledge there is some relationship risk here. Not that he turns into a monster but that he's not happy if it makes more sense for him to be a bench player. That risk could be there either way though as he may want his shot and not giving it to him could lead to a strained relationship. I just think there are personalities to manage here.

I think you kind of have to give him the job on a full-time basis for a while if you want to see if he can handle it.

We tend to think about what our players can do for the team. We want to maximize the team... but for Collin if he proves he is a starter quality guy and then you move him to the bench how happy is he going to be long term. We may not care but he will... starting or coming off the bench changes how a player is viewed and valued. Its hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Not sure what he would do about it... we have a long term deal and he will likely still perform but his ego would likely need some massaging. Like after the year JC has had do we think he'd accept a bench role for us next year? He might take that somewhere else but there is an real ego hit... does he turn into a tyrant? Probably not... could we have a John Collins type general unhappiness? That's the downside risk... it might be present already but making him a starter now might speed up that confrontation.

that's exactly it... I don't think Rob knows what he is doing. He waiting for one super move that gets him a title. Tough to say the AD deal hasn't worked but there are more picks in that deal yet to convey.

Its just not how roster building works... you have to make a few good deals when you have as many roster holes as they do... and plugging those holes will have a huge impact when you already have Bron and AD.

I don't think Collin is going to be significantly different/better as a starter vs a bench player than he has been this season or than what he was in Cleveland. He's not a PG so it makes it difficult to start him because he has to be paired with a big guard.
