Trading up to the 5/6 slot

Mods, you can merge this thread with my "Trade Idea with Golden State" if you would like to

But basically, we need DeMarcus Cousins like I said in the other thread. Since Sacramento supposedly wants a veteran SF, I think we should dump AK on them! They've got significant cap room right now, so they could easily take what is left of his contract. So here are a few deals that could be good for both teams:

AK+Memphis Pick for #5
AK+9 for Fransico Garcia+#5.

What say ye? Too one-sided for the Jazz, or would Sac-town do it?

I don't think Sacramento would do either. Not enough incentive, methinks. Give up the 5 for a one year rental and a maybe draft pick? The second one is more even, but I dislike it for the Jazz. But I think I'd be in the minority on that one.

The chance to get DeMarcus Cousins is so tempting, I really think to get a guy like DeMarcus Cousins that could take over the league in a couple years especially with a point guard like Deron Williams, they would be unstoppable.

Only problem is that if Cousins is this good every other team will be trying to move up to get him. Why can't the Wolves take him at #4 and trade away Love and Jefferson for other things also? Chances are slim Jazz can pull something off with the assets they have.

The same unpredictable reasons a team like the Hawks would pass on both Deron and Chris Paul to get Marvin Williams, and Portland would do the same and agree to trade down to get Webster.

I figured some one would bring up the DWill deal. But Jazz had multiple first rounders to give that year. There were other factors in play also. I would love to see Jazz get Cousins but it would surprise me if they pulled it off.

Future 1sts (which are only a mediocre to fair asset given our typical record) would have to be involved in these types of trades imo. I have no trouble trading one or two (given how far we would move up) away if it nets us Cousins or Favors. We're not going to have another chance in the next few years to get a top 3-5 pick and need to take advantage of this opportunity. Top tier free agents won't come here which means we need to take advantage of draft nights like this as we did when we moved up to get DWill if we're truly thinking of a ring. Other than the recent Pistons squad, all rings by all-time greats. Top 50 guys if not top 25. Duncan, Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Pippen, etc. We need to move up and get an a potentially elite player in either Cousins, Favors or Turner.

Sixers fans would riot if they gave up the #2 pick. And Cousins or Favors better put Jazz as legit contenders to give up future first rounders.

Point 1. Agreed. #9 to #2 seems too tough. And Sixers fans would rightfully go ballistic. But if we did two moves? If we first moved up to #5, then doing a second trade to move up to #2 or 3 becomes much more plausible. The Sixers could swallow moving down to #5 and getting Cousins as well as what other assets or financial freedom the move down netted them.
Point 2. How are valuable are our later 1st rounders? Koufos? Maynor? Brewer? Were those guys the piece to the puzzle? Trading them means nothing to me just like the Lakers trading two 1sts to Memphis in the Gasol deal meant nothing to them.

Lakers got a proven vet in Gasol and have won two titles with him. They also had best player in league in Kobe. Getting Cousins may not prove to be as certain .

So what's your point? Are we going to get such studs at #23, year after year? Obviously no.

We need to take a chance. Trading away lower 1st rounders means next to nothing in my opinion. Hell, a lot of our core players were 2nd rounders or undrafted so it shows you how much of a crap shoot it really is as you go further into the draft.
