What's new

Travis Leslie:D-League Call up. WTH?

Um, Why did the team do this? I don't get it, we already have 14 players on the team and right now nobody's injured except for Millsap which I am pretty sure is just a bruise/pointer. There are plenty of players who can play the guard and he isn't a point guard unless I missed something. All this talk about them getting him early to have him for next year is nice, but if he can't stay on someone else's team than what makes us think we are any different.

Don't get me wrong, I like what I see in him, but the timing makes no sense. Is he going to help us get into the playoffs? And if he gets time, who's time is he going to take away? Um, Burks. Yeah, Burks. If I got my wish it would be Foye, he can't do anything but shoot.

Finally, this guy has been available the whole year, it's not like we had to wait for someone else to waive him, so why not cut Raja ages ago and get him for the whole season? Are you telling me that the Jazz just noticed him? Locke mentioned in an interview that Leslie's shooting has improved a lot in the recent months. Maybe that is what the Jazz were waiting for.

It's not rocket science:
1. Pot odds, low risk, high reward.
2. Why limit your trade options by grabbing a d-leaguer over an actual NBA player?
3. Why waive Roger and reward him, so that future players know they can bully you into paying their contract, then release them so they can double dip? (not to mention the fact that it may help another team)

It looks like a guy they have been scouting, and want to see what he looks like in a Jazz uni. I would imagine its really a tryout for next year.

Since we didn't get a trade, I guess this is a good consolation prize.

Exactly, you pay the guy a couple of 10 day contracts to practice with the team and see if you like him. You do, you sign him to another deal in the off-season. The Jazz are probably gearing up to trade for Porter and sign Jennings, so they are going to need cheap contracts.

So.... The Jazz are going to sign this guy so they have a tiny trade piece to use in a deal? Man, the NBA is heartless, isn't it. If you need a scrap to make a one sided trade work, all you have to do is swap second round draft picks.

No, cheaper contracts to fill our roster out.

I'm guessing this guy is an exact repeat of Santi Gaines...

Good athlete, doesn't have PG skills (more of a SG), can create off the dribble, and ultimately will be a good 2nd or 3rd backup point guard. Much like Ronnie Price or Gaines, this guy will provide energy and toughness when our starters (which is like every game) decide to sleep throughout the 1st quarter. Unfortunately, he's probably not Jeremy Lin (someone who actually turned out to be a player).

Ultimately, we need a PG in the worst way. We'll have to wait until the draft for a chance to find us one.
