What's new

Trey Burke just tweeted this:

I ask this in all seriousness, since the draft what has Burke done that gives you hope?

Ignore everything prior to the draft.

I believe the Jazz Managment would have liked Trey to explode at summer league to build on the excitment that was created on draft night. But He didn't explode....no big deal....Jazz can downplay his performance and engage the fans in other ways.

I think it is part of the Jazz plan for a rebuild is to pump a new story every week or so. They have alot of work to do after the last three years to build fan interest, intrigue and hope. So Trey struggles in Orlando, no worries. It changes the spin, but not the plan.

Ian Clark is just the story of the week. By the end of this week there will be another.

Regardless of Burke's motivation for the retweet, Clark is his new teammate. Burke shouldn't be doing anything that could create bad blood among the team --he is the PG for ****'s sake!

So far I have been really disapointed with Burke's transition to the NBA on all fronts. I hope he mans up, and soon.

Excellent point. I'm not hating on Burke (the pick), but I am hating on his tweet. Time to grow up.

No reason to read between the lines in this tweet. maybe he just wanted all his followers to see what he saw. id be intrested to see tweets that followed.

I'd be more inclined to worry if he started arguing with the guy on Twitter. Him just retweeting him I see more as a Kobe or Rondo'esque "*** ya'll, bout to go DQ on all you haters this year."

Worrying about what random people say about you on Twitter is stupid, but there are tons of elite athletes that use the "everybody doubts me" edge to their advantage.

Good thing we still have Andrew Harrison to fall back on next year...
Yeah, I guess. I'd rather think we had fixed a problem area and could put in another piece (SF) instead of going back and re-doing PG. But if Trey comes up zeroes, our record may be bad enough to put us in that 1/2 slot. Not sure if any quality PG's will be available with the GS pick, but the Jazz could go free agent and drop Burke to backup. With a lineup of Wiggins (or Parker), Hayward, Favors and Kanter, would Utah really need a great PG? Just adequate (like the Laker-era Fisher) would do, since the offense might be running through Hayward anyway.

Let me preface this by saying I think Burke will turn into a fine NBA player. That being said....

He is going struggle and struggle mightily this year. He can't get his shot off in the paint. He is in an offense that hasn't run a lot of pick and roll since Corbin took over. He doesn't have a player that can bail the team out with 5 secs on the shot clock. I don't know if Favors or Kanter have ever set a real NBA pick yet.

Those are all easy fixes, but they take time and experience.

The point of my post is this: Your post is dead on. Burke will struggle this year, we will suck, we will end up with Wiggins or Parker, and will sign a vet pg in the offseason. BUT that doesn't mean Burke sucks, or that he isn't the pg of the future or anything like that. It just means he is a young player on a bad team that needs TIME to adjust to the NBA game. He will be a very good starter for us in 2-3 years.

I wonder how Trey Burke found that tweet? Trey's handle wasn't attached and there so no "hashtag". The guy who wrote it only has 13 followers. Hmm.........
