What's new

Trey Lyles being held out of practice/Summer League for now

It only makes enough sense to me if they are actively talking/pursuing something.

Yes. Also, if they wanted that "flexibility" then why set the precedent now? Wouldn't we have held guys out of summer league in previous years?

Is sitting a guy out of the summer league worth whatever theoretical <1% chance that we need to use that extra $300k? I lean more toward a higher likelihood of thinking they can keep him in play as part of a trade.
Yeah. I wondered about that too. If they sign him, they have to wait 30 days before they can trade him. If they don't have a major deal worked out, I'd prefer them to just keep him for now and see how he fits. He's often compared to Boozer, but based on his skill set, I think a better comparison is Boris Diaw - who fits what Snyder does to the "T". If Lyles can bring to the Jazz what Diaw has brought to the Spurs. . . then he's a good pick at 12.

Even though the fan bases have gotten used to the idea of them being on the teams, there's no doubt in my mind that Lyles is a better fit for New York and Porzingis is a better fit for Utah. It would be expensive, but I could see the Jazz burn a ton of assets to make that deal happen still.

that is an interesting point, but unless they've done an amazing job smoke screening everyone I don't think that is happening.

Though summer league is just summer league, it's a pretty important opportunity to break in new guys. Holding someone out for something so hypothetical and infintismal doesn't add up.

This. Something is "on the table". Probably based around a Trevor Booker trade, but possible Lyles could be involved as well. Would explain why Lindsey is getting short to reporters when asked about Trevor.

Unless they need the full 350k because the incoming contract is so large. I think you bring up an interesting point though... we have to wait 90 days to trade him if he signs I believe.

Possibly. Unfortunately there is nothing else to go on. All we have is assumption and speculation. Personally it fells right to say the Jazz FO is actively looking at something.

Might only be trying to make myself feel better though.

DL mentioned that he took a surprise call. Last year, the deal for Love was held up until August because the T'Wolves signed Wiggins. If there is a possible deal in the works, it makes sense for the Jazz to hold off until that deal could be completed. Not sure what the possible deal and/or holdup would be, but I'm curious to see if the Jazz do in fact stick with the roster as constructed.

I think Utah is far more likely to make a trade (for an existing contract) or a different rookie, than they are to make an overpriced signing on the free agent market. They have assets to use, so I could see them using them. My expectation is that they'd rather hold off on making a big deal, but maybe not. All depends on who might be available.

In other news the clippers might have to play Griffin at center... he has the same standing reach as Joe Ingles... we making the playoffs next year bitches.

Can't they trade the rights to Lyles without bringing back salary if he hasn't signed yet?

Maybe there is a trade, the other team wants Lyles thrown in, but his salary ****s it up?

Spurs (assuming Aldridge signs), Warriors and OKC will be elite.

Clips take a slip and Mavs tread water.

Suns are worse.

Jazz might even get the 6th seed next year!
