What I was thinking. He has his limitations but if he can maintaint hat shooting and effort. he will be a good back up PF.
You said he was gonna be really good. Now he will just be a good back up?
Get. Your. Story. Straight.
Woopty Doo!!
He actually looked decent for once. It was against the worst defense in the league.
I've never said he's a bust. I've just said his ceiling isn't high enough. He will be at best as good as Hayward. Like Dr Jones said, he doesn't project to be a good defender. Everyone wants to be like Golden State and run a point forward out there, but Lyles will never be a defender like Draymond. So we are gonna get something less than Draymond, and we won't get the same type of results.
Funny how everyone is so excited about Lyles. In 5 years there will be Lyles trade threads because he won't be good enough to make us contenders. That's the point. We just keep drafting average players.
So when are we going to draft players who can be stars or at least top-tier starters? DL is never going to find a Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler? His job is to take guys who project as role players even when he has a decent pick? Burke and Lyles are failures for where they were drafted. Jazz have a nice team; they'll compete for a 5th-8th seed every season if this is DL's strategy. Some of those highlights were extremely impressive. I still have concerns over his long-term defensive potential but as a 3rd big, he looks like the perfect compliment to a Favors/Gobert frontcourt. His handle, shot, passing, & bball iq are very impressive considering his age. As long as people keep in mind the fact that he was drafted to be a role player rather than a star, I don't see how we will be disappointed with the type of player he develops into.
So thirty something games into his career and it's a failed career? U do realize the Jazz drafted Stockton, just two picks later to be a backup pg, right? Of course he's not going to be Dray or Butler, but we are seeing that he has advanced floor skills as a big, he's going to make his teammates better, he's also shown he's going to be anything but a failure. Also, I wasn't aware that it was common place to find a star with the 14th pick. What's wrong with building a complete team? Also I've changed my tune on Burke, he's not perfect, but he's been a lot better this year then I ever thought possible, and he's going to be better next year. He's a nice player to have come off the bench. So when are we going to draft players who can be stars or at least top-tier starters? DL is never going to find a Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler? Jesus. The only slots a team can reasonably expect stardom is in the top 3. **** drops off pretty quickly after that, historically. Also, draft class is a huge consideration that no teams control. Burke is a failed pick because of what it cost to acquire him, but the only star that comes to mind picked after Burke is Rudy Gobert (Giannis is quite overrated), so chill the **** out a bit. As far as Lyles, do you have some ****ing crystal ball? Jimmy Butler was glued to the bench for most of his rookie season, and Draymond Green was little more than a cheap-shot artist his first year. Furthermore, who were the Jazz supposed to select at 12? The Jazz got hosed with how the draft played out to that point, and while I would've selected Bobby Portis or Kelly Oubre (in the order), Lyles is looking pretty damn good right now.So when are we going to draft players who can be stars or at least top-tier starters? Draymond Green was a 4 year college player, he's 6'6" and change without shoes. He turns 26 in a few months, after his 4th season, he's actually older than Hayward. ..
Green's a terrible comparison for most players, because of just how well-rounded/battle-tested his game is.. Green's easily one of the best 2nd round picks ever, it's a steep comparison. That comparison is quickly becoming the new Shaun Livingston comparison, maybe even worse.
There's one player in HS, a Canadian, Justin Jackson who's headed to UNLV, who i'd compare his skillset to Draymond Green, he's a 6'7" Point forward with a 7'2" wingspan though, and his timeline will be much different, Justin Jackson isn't going to need 4 years of college to build up 2nd round hype..
To compare him to a prototype sized PF like Lyles, who was a one-and-done just doesn't work for me. Lyles will just be 23 at the end of his rookie deal, Draymond Green was 23 at the end of his rookie season.. I'm weary about comparing players on such different timelines, there's a massive unaccounted gap in experience..
