Rep.
Don Bacon (R-NE) scolded President
Donald Trump over his Oval Office
tirade against Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, calling it “a bad day for America’s foreign policy.”
Zelensky had traveled to Washington, D.C. to sign a deal to keep the United States involved in the Ukrainian war effort and discuss the ongoing conflict between his nation and
Vladimir Putin’s Russia. But the deal blew up after Trump, Vice President
JD Vance, and Zelensky got in a shouting match in front of the press in the Oval Office that saw Trump wax poetic about his relationship with Putin, call Zelensky “disrespectful,” and insist he didn’t “have the cards right now!” (trump is probably not smart enough to understand that english is not the primary language that zelensky speaks and phrases like "you dont have the cards" probably are hard to even understand for him)
“Ukraine wants independence, free markets and rule of law. It wants to be part of the West. Russia hates us and our Western values. We should be clear that we stand for freedom,”
argued Bacon.
Trump had previously falsely accused Zelensky of being a dictator responsible for starting the war between Ukraine and Russia, despite the fact that Zelensky was duly elected and the conflict began when Russia launched an invasion of Zelensky’s country in early 2022.
