Trump's Coup Attempt

Its staggeringly shocking that anyone ever voted for him in either of the previous elections and shocking enough to kill me that anyone would vote for him again. Yet they will.
The fight for our democracy isn’t over. I do think that if Republicans fail to retake Congress this fall, that it’ll send shockwaves throughout the GOP establishment. I really do think defeating Trumpism will be possible if we once again reject it this fall. If anything, Trumpism is stronger now than in 2020 because so many Rs are running on the Big Lie.

If nothing changes from today he'd be the overwhelming front-runner for the Republican Presidential nomination. He's a criminal. An unrepentant corrupt criminal. He doesn't even have any political skills outside of appealing to the stupidest people in our country.
I agree.

Even if he doesn’t run, DeSantis is still campaigning on Trumpism. DeSantis is merely Trump run through the car wash. You get the same fascism, just not the same over the top buffoonery… not by much though:

Hmm. First I’ve heard of this.

Former President Trump’s top allies are preparing to radically reshape the federal government if he is re-elected, purging potentially thousands of civil servants and filling career posts with loyalists to him and his "America First” ideology, people involved in the discussions tell Axios.

The impact could go well beyond typical conservative targets such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Internal Revenue Service. Trump allies are working on plans that would potentially strip layers at the Justice Department — including the FBI, and reaching into national security, intelligence, the State Department and the Pentagon, sources close to the former president say.

During his presidency, Trump often complained about what he called “the deep state.”

The heart of the plan is derived from an executive order known as “Schedule F,” developed and refined in secret over most of the second half of Trump’s term and launched 13 days before the 2020 election.

The reporting for this series draws on extensive interviews over a period of more than three months with more than two dozen people close to the former president, and others who have firsthand knowledge of the work underway to prepare for a potential second term. Most spoke on condition of anonymity to describe sensitive planning and avoid Trump’s ire.

Disturbing but unsurprising. President Ron DeSantis would accomplish the same thing without half the drama of Trump. With DeSantis, you get the same authoritarianism, grift, and racism as Trump, without the porn stars and drunk lawyers.

Republicans did with the judicial branch. So why not flood the executive with toadies? This is why the fight against authoritarianism is far from over. It didn’t begin with Trump nor will it end with Trump. There is a highly organized fascist movement in the United States. It involves think tanks like Heritage, funded by billionaires like the Kochs and Mercers, and is fueled by the most comprehensive propaganda/entertainment apparatus from Fox News to NRO. This poison is fed into millions of Americans nonstop via tv and Facebook.

We need a concerted effort to keep Republicans out of positions of power until this fascist movement fails.

Wow!

What an impressive hearing tonight. What were your thoughts?
This surprised me. Probably should not have surprised me. At the time, when the mob was mockingly calling out “Oh,Naaancy!”, I honestly thought she could stand right in front of them and say “yeah, here I am, what are you going to do about it?” and all those tough guys would have folded on the spot in front of a strong woman.

Steve Bannon has called for “4,000 shock troops” to come forward to dismantle the United States federal government “brick by brick”.

Days after being convicted of contempt of Congress, the former White House adviser told listeners of his War Room podcast on Monday of a scheme to purge the government of thousands of non-partisan civil servants should Donald Trump be reelected as president.

Mr Bannon said it went far beyond “draining the swamp”.

“This is taking on and defeating and deconstructing the administrative state,” he said.

“Suck on it. We’re destroying this illegitimate regime.”

The inflammatory remarks came after Axios reported last week that Donald Trump was planning to fire thousands of federal workers at all levels of government should he retake the White House in 2025.

Sadly this will inspire and motivate a fairly large voting block.

This is why Americans from different views on policy but who share the same commitment to law and democracy need to unite and back the Democrat. For all the flaws of the Democratic candidates and party, at least they’re for the most part still supportive of rule of law, our democracy, and our constitution. Decent people everywhere need to do all they can to keep this authoritarian movement out of political power until a new conservative party emerges. One that actually believes in winning in the market place of ideas, rather than marching young men with guns to overturn elections.

“We would just be sending in ‘fake’ electoral votes to Pence so that ‘someone’ in Congress can make an objection when they start counting votes, and start arguing that the ‘fake’ votes should be counted,” Jack Wilenchik, a Phoenix-based lawyer who helped organize the pro-Trump electors in Arizona, wrote in a Dec. 8, 2020, email to Boris Epshteyn, a strategic adviser for the Trump campaign.
Keep in mind, when SCOTUS rules on this:
Proponents of the theory argue that that clause gives state legislatures power to regulate federal elections uninhibited by state courts or state constitutions. If a majority of the Supreme Court agrees, that would hamstring state courts, removing judicial oversight of state elections.

"Taken to its extreme, the independent state legislature doctrine could be an earthquake in American election law and fundamentally alter the balance of power within states and provide a pathway to subvert election results," says professor Richard Hasen, an expert on election law from the University of California, Irvine.

Repubs won’t need to attempt to get fake electors to create chaos during certification. They can just rely on Trump controlled state legislatures to send a slate of electors who’ll support Trump, regardless of how the state actually voted.

The thing is, unless they somehow wiped all servers from the providers those texts are likely still out there somewhere. Unless they have the cell provider in their pocket as well. I have seen them recover texts and emails from 6-7 years prior in court cases involving employee issues. How the hell can they not recover these is beyond me. America, and especially american politics, has become a farce of epic proportions.

Not just wiped. You have to magnetize the servers to get most of the data off of them.

But them Hillary emails...

All kidding aside, our political powers regardless of party are beyond crooked. It's criminal how the people have no power - and it's only going to get worse with our voting rights being demonized.

Eh, they can do multi-writes to garble the data. I have a program that over-writes empty sectors 1000 times or more with garbage. That effectively makes it nearly impossible to recover data. Of course, depending on the media, it can lessen the life of the drive, but it is still pretty effective.

The people have plenty of power. Whether they want to use it or not is the issue.

Hillary never intentionally deleted emails to avoid prosecution. She cooperated with the investigation and Comey never found anything illegal. That’s completely different than what happened here.

That's still a lot more than simple deletion.
