TURKEY-GERMANY : Nowitzki- Turkey

When it comes to big games against longer players like Gasol or Bynum, I disagree. This is no different than Memo who held his ground well and tried to play good team d. But when push came to shove, he simply didn't have the ability to truly challenge the offensive player whether that meant blocking a shot, altering one, or gaining any type of psychological advantage in the match-up.

Kanter may be listed at 6'11 (without shoes) and he may rebound at a very good rate in the NBA. But he doesn't appear to have the lift or play tall to truly challenge the best in the league. Against heavy-footed guys like Kaman and maybe Bogut, he may be okay. Against Howard, Bynum, the Gasols, and maybe a few others, I'm not so sure. The bottom line though is he's 19 so if you're someone like me, why worry. We have the luxury of time and a stable of bigs, specifically Favors, who I believe can play truly big at the 5 if Kanter can't.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't like the Okur comparison .. they go about the game completely differently.

What? There is a HUGE difference, as Kanter seems to have the ability to:

1. Beat his man back down court. Memo and Boozer were both atrocious in transition.

2. Once back, keep his opposite number away from the basket. Again, Memo's not nearly as strong or physical as Kanter seems to be.

What a terrible comparison. Are you high?

I didn't say he plays defense like Okur. I said, like Kanter, Okur also has the ability to do what you mentioned, hold his ground well and play good team d. Transition d was never mentioned by you or me.

Kanter and Favors could be very good together down the road. Their skills greatly compliment one another. What one lacks the other has and vice versa. Promising, for sure.

I don't think Memo has nearly as solid a base as Kanter. Add in the transition element, and the defensive comparison is just plain stupid.

Kanter = Perkins is a lot closer than Favors = Garnett. If Favors ever finds anything close to Garnett's intensity (fat chance)...

Perkins <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Garnett = tough to make the double comparison, for me.

Garnett is intense for sure, but not only is he intense but also a hot-headed loud-mouth who is often a dirty player. People often associate intensity with their ability to make the loudest noise. A color can be intense without saying a word (not to get too arts-fartsy on ya). Tim Duncan is intense in the way he plays. Favors is intense! The way he dunks on anyone, and I do mean anyone (if you can dunk on/through JaVale McGee, you can dunk on/through anyone), challenges every shot (often to a fault getting in foul trouble), calls for the ball (happening more and more often; see the Blazers game against Aldridge), rebounds the ball (see the Celtics game at home and the epic Lakers game). This guy is not afraid to dunk on/through or block anyone. He can sky over most players in the NBA and loves to do so. He's 19 (20?), but don't underestimate his intensity just because he doesn't have flatulence of the mouth like KG. On the flip-side, KG is often not as intense on the offensive end, preferring to pass the ball.

Memo is the worst help/team defending 5 that I can think of. Atrocious. What?

The ONLY thing Memo does well defensively is contain his matchup.
