Makes sense to go more flex and less screen-roll without one of the best screen-roll PG's as well as duoes (Deron/Boozer) in the game. Also makes sense to focus a little less on low-post offense - because Millsap doesn't have a back-to-the-basket game, Favors is still raw and even though Al was scoring at a high rate last year, he's not an overly efficient post-player and we got pretty stagnant because he couldn't pass or hit cutters like Boozer could. I think Ty sees where we struggled last year and wants to focus on playing 5-man basketball this year.

I don't know about running it through Sap more, but I agree about Hayward. I'd love to see more side screen-roll w/Hayward, which we can easily get into out of our standard UCLA-sets (like we did when we'd play Deron off-the-ball). Ran some similar stuff in the 4th-qtr of the win in LA (of course Harris was out of the lineup for that one which may have had something to do w/it) and Hayward really showed his playmaking ability when he was able to get into the lane.
 
Utilizing the guards in more pick and roll sounds wonderful. It also affirms my faith in Ty. We have a very unusual number of wings who can drive and pass. Taking advantage of that is crucial. I'm really looking forward to seeing out offense.

If they don't need the PG to dominate the ball as much then it makes sense to play Burks at the 1 more often (which seems to be what Corbin is trialing).

If that's the case then Burks just needs to bring the ball up and let Hayward initiate the offense at 2.

Playing Burks at 1 and Hayward at 2 (both offensive minded players) also gives you the option of playing a tall/athletic/rebounding/defensive 3.
 
Harris is fast, so it makes sense to have an offense that keeps moving to utilize his advantage.
I like that Corbin is tweaking things to the players, I think it will make the team much more effective than plugging players into a system that is set in stone.
A stable system is good, but I really think you still need to do the little tweaks to improve the effectiveness of both a system, and the players.
 
Gilder is sounding like he has a really opportunity to make the team. His size and quickness would help us against the bigger scoring SFs. Also he hit a decent percent of his 3's in the D league.
 
Along with size, the Jazz look to have pretty good quickness in the front court. Back when Karl Malone liked to get all his points right under the basket, the Jazz were always looking for ways to get down court quickly and establish his deep post position before the defense could react. I could see both Kanter and Favors getting into that early-offense mode and being really tough to contend with. Especially if we have Kanter, Favors and Millsap on the floor together. Two of them can rebound and the other can leak out.

The Jazz have a nice combination of speed and power that other teams might struggle to contend with. It's nice to think that the Jazz might actually be the team with more athleticism than their opponents. If Millsap really can play the SF, it makes the Jazz's front court really powerful.

Not only more athletic, but bigger than the opponents.
 
Good tweets. I also like that Corbin is fitting his strategy to make the most out of the pieces he has to work with, rather than just pounding that square peg until it gets in that hole or falls apart.

I also agree with spazz. I think it is important to have a solid foundation, based on fundamentals, and a solid basic strategy both on offense and defense, to give your team their identity. But on top of that foundation the details and specifics and tactics need to be fluid and adaptable to the players and situation. So far I like the little we have been hearing.

Good point. This is why I think Kanter can be effective. Playing next to Favors and Millsap, he's going to get his position. It's just hard to keep that many bigs out the paint. Teams just aren't going to have the energy to push them out all game long. These guys are strong.
 
With Burks, Favors, Hayward, and Kanter along with Harris, I hope to see that group on the floor just running the other team to death. Layup and dunk after layup and dunk.

We're used to having overachieving 2nd-round picks running around setting picks for each other, running down the shot clock, passing the ball around as if no one wants to shoot.

It's amazing to think we might actually have multiple mismatches in our favor.

The fan/media obsession with players being the first one to show up has me fascinated. I was the first one to work this morning. My wife had to drop me off early as my car is in the shop, and she had an appointment to get to. I took a two-hour lunch, and I'm planning on sneaking out when I think it's safe to do so. Oh, and I'm terrible at my job. But no one will question my dedication and leadership because, dammit, I was here at 7:45 getting an early start on reading Facebook.

The Jazz have had a great attitude so far. For how bad we're slated to be, our guys are ridiculously confident and excited. I think they have the chance to surprise a lot of people.
