And he is either so desperate to just be a coach or too stupid to see it.
This past year he was given a roster full of players just 1 year away from their contracts expiring... Great idea!.... If you're the Heat! As long as you are competing for a championship all those FAs will swallow their pride and work for the "greater good." But we weren't a championship caliber team. Not even close. We were a competing for the broom against okc/SA team.
Instead of the FO getting something out of those free agents via midseason trades, they sat on their asses. As a result, Ty Corbin is going to be left with 2 options for the upcoming 13-14 season:
Play the resigned crap that couldn't get the job done in 12-13.
Play the "new" guys who probably aren't that good in the first place and definitely will need some time to gel. Meaning, if we let Big Al and co walk, we will have to sign new guys. Judging by the FA class this summer, I see essentially the same caliber of player as those leaving. Guys like Mo, Big Al, Millsap, etc. Not good. Even if we do a sign and trade with Millsap/Big Al, the stuff we are getting in return might not even arrive until another season or two (like draft picks). Or it will need time to gel (which could have been the 2nd half of our 12-13 season). Or The stuff in return probably won't even be as good as the stuff being traded for.
Basically, the "what should have been" 12-13 season of experimentation and development will be postponed until 13-14.
Ty Corbin has been played all because Greggie Boy wanted to squeeze a few million out of this 12-13 season via sweep against the OKC/SA. And Ty Corbin has lacked the foresight to see it. He should have used at least the 2nd half of last season to try and go through some of the growing pains that Hayward, Burks, Favors, and Kanter will have next season. He should have known that due to his contract situation that he could have missed out on the playoffs this season but **** would hit the fan if the Jazz sucked in 13-14.
Halfway through next year, when the Jazz are sucking (but trying to develop the young guys. Or sort of playing the young guys but playing on retreads signed during this summer), he will be fired.
He will take the fall for not only his own crappiness but for the FO's incompetence.
Has ty Corbin sucked? Absolutely.
But has the FO done him any favors? Hell no. Especially if it was they who forced him to play the vets in the first place. Yet... Will this FO be held accountable? I doubt it. Lets be honest, the chances of him making the playoffs next year aren't very good.
They'll fire Ty. He'll be the scapegoat. The Jazz will suck next year and miss out on the playoffs (they have such a small chance of making them it's not even funny). And we'll be back in the lottery! Maybe someday we will make the playoffs again. But it probably won't be for another 2-3 years because this FO sat on their asses for 2-3 years watching Big Al and these worthless vets rather than actually taking the bitter medicine all at once and rebuilding when they first traded Duron.
