In July 2017, this dude showed up in Salt Lake City as an unsigned practice player with Utah's summer league team, got his tooth knocked out during a scrimmage, went to the hospital, and came back that night for another practice. That's how desperate O'Neale was for an NBA job.

Now he's a rotation fixture for playoff team, mostly because of plays like this:

Luol Deng leaning away from him to bother Joe Ingles, and knows he has an alley that will close fast.

He does not pause. He does the opposite of pausing. He is already running toward the rim before Ingles' pass hits his hands, to the point that he risks leaving the ball behind. O'Neale is so decisive, and shifts into top gear so fast, it's almost alarming. You worry he's going to crash into the basket stanchion, or just lose control of his body and fall over.

But O'Neale understands how the defense will rotate once he beats Deng, and when Derrick Favors might come open. Snuff that, and O'Neale toggles to another option; he has the floor mapped in his head:

Jae Crowder in the corner -- so O'Neale, under the rim and in midair, mind you, throws a fastball to Donovan Mitchell.

O'Neale knows he's not going to play 30 minutes or take a bunch of shots, so he goes all-out on defense. He's feisty, and often guards the best opposing scorer. He's really strong. Oh, he's also shooting 40 percent from deep.

Just weit until next game where rubio goes 1-20 then he has a good game after and we start talking about rubio locking in again and then fools gold again?

Like it or not, we are stuck with Rubio.....but that's not really a bad thing! The kid is a pass first point guard who loves his job! He knows how to get the ball to the big boys down low! We lead the league in DUNKS and it's mainly him that's responsible! Even when he has a bad shooting night he still ends up with 10 assists and minimal turnovers! We all recognize his outside shooting leaves a lot to be desired....but it is what it is!

I love Royce and think that he, more than anyone else on the team, should be getting more minutes.
I also think he has more potential and room to grow than anyone on the team other than perhaps Spida. Perhaps
He had a very tough left hand finish through contact (it was an and one play) last game against the Hawks. I think he can create and be more of a scorer than he is being allowed to be right now.

Y'all are missing something significant here. Could it be possible that Rubio is FINALLY locking in this season? Dude went 6-10 (2 of 3 from 3), hit all 3 free throws, and had 17 points with 7 assists and only 2 turnovers, along with some big steals. If he keeps this up Utah will be a much stronger team going into the playoffs. Might even get through round one with him playing like that.

What logic are you using??

Rubio plays well and we lose to Atlanta. How do you extrapolate that too;

Rubio's home/away stats are so weird.

Home: 35.5 FG% 29.7% from three 6.9 assists 2.3 TO

Away: 43% FG% 33.8% from three 5.6 assists 3.1 TO

So he shoots better away but has better PG stats at home. More rebounds at home but more steals playing away games.

Yup. Bazemore is a 31% 3pt shooter who hit 4 of 6. That's just garbage, and not much can be done about it.

The Jazz game plan shut down Collins and Trae Young had an effective FG% of 38% - 10 percentage points below his averafe which is not great to begin with .

This alone is enough to beat The Hawks handily 9 games out of 10.

The only problem is the rest of the team collectively shot over 60% from 3. Almost double their season average.

This loss left a bitter taste in my mouth too but it was a major outlier when you look at the numbers. No need to second guess .
