Utah Jazz Media Day (live stream)

Im seeing it on VistaVision

IMAX is cool, but every IMAX theater I've been to has terrible seats. I just cant go back to old-school theater seating, especially for 3 hour movies.
That's definitely the way to do it, wish I had done VistaVision myself. Let me know what you think, I think it will be long remembered as one of the American greats. Hitchcock in breadth, Kubrick in depth, and somehow wholly unique.

This dude is a great coach. His answers were so ****ing good. That Shakespearean monologue he gave about the fans and players growing and earning together and the community's responsibility to raise these young men well - holy ****. That was a Hollywood quality response, I'd listen to that any day over the scene in Rudy. Rare you see such emotional competence and maturity in a guy that gives off Frat Social Chair vibes. It's clear why the players love him. This was Ainge and Smith's best move so far - even beyond the haul they got for Gobert.

It's going to piss people off, including me, during the season but his answer here on earned minutes and a meritocracy culture makes sense, and I see why he and the front office feels it's essential for winning. That's part of the difference between us and a Washington. We also don't offer predatory 'agents' jobs and money to route their client to us.

Will Hardy has always been able to speak incredibly well but I still have some doubts. The meritocracy stuff rings a bit hollow with how he has played the lineup the last couple of years. He also needs to figure out how to get the most out of our guys defensively. We cannot constantly be bottom of the league in defense year after year. We might not have many good defensive players in general but part of that is on coaching as well.

If true, then hopefully the Jazz reengage before the deadline and get something done. Even if we have to go up to 30 with incentives I'm ok, but hopefully in that scenario you get a team option and descending salary.
We will have a pod out today with a pretty lengthy discussion on this. We seem to be prioritizing next year's cap space and I think the long term planning is much more beneficial to the team and from an asset standpoint. Do something around an AAV of 27-28M and if its declining then you are looking at it being like 10% of the cap in a couple years. Even if he is a 20-25 minute guy in the playoffs because of limitations and is an inning eater in the regular season... great value imo.

Locke had a pod where I think he revealed where things ended up on accident... I think the Jazz would do 20 per year. I think Walker is asking 30 per year. There is a natural middle ground here that we should accept imo. I think the Jazz broke things off for whatever reason someone wants to believe and that is why Walker was frustrated.

I would guess there is a real chance Walker is not on the team to start next season. The Jazz have not done a great job managing this asset imo. Their line of "flexibility" is just disguised "indecisiveness".
I’m gonna do some research in a minute, but my recollection is a poison pill provision would kick in in the context of trading him this year (not to mention being locked into a cap number that would lower their cap space next year in any case).

What I’m getting at is: perhaps there is something to the notion of flexibility (especially regarding trading him this year).

That came up in the podcast so there will be more detail, but TLDR...

1- If you were going to trade him... you missed your best windows. I'm concerned about our planning dept.
2- Cap space schmap face... we can sign him to something reasonable now and still have 30M+ in space to maneuver. Look at the names in FA... there are maybe two that actually hit FA that are worth more than that. Can still work a sign and trade to get it done if you needed more space. We can't keep everyone.
