What's new

Utah Jazz Players in the FIBA World Cup(in China)

I see, probably why he waited until the exact time he was in Australia to post right? Awfully convenient for good PR in the timing of the congratulations. Stop, this is such obvious pandering to his current audience and it seems so fake to me.
And you care soooo much about this, why? Is it fake? Maybe, but I see this kind of thing all the time, and like it was mentioned above, it’s possible he knows him thanks to Ingles.

Get a life. People can actually care about others. It doesn't mean they're fake.

Dickhead.

He’s fake for PR purposes and it works. Last week in Vegas a person from Memphis media also mentioned they think Donovan is really fake but he’s smart enough cover it up. Yes. I’m sure he cares so much about a dude he has probably never watched, on a team he doesn’t care about, and then posts his congratulations so it can be as pandering as possible while he’s in Australia. Donovan loves to pander, and that becomes pretty obvious the more situations he’s in. He says/does the same pandering just to his current audience.

Because it’s an Internet forum, a very slow time and I can? Mainly I just got a lot of pushback and still do when I say he’s fake/pandering for PR purposes and things like this are so obvious.

Okay... I heard a guy from Memphis (Chris Vernon) talk about pro and college scouts raving about how genuine and good a kid he was all through high school. About how he's also a huge voice at Team USA... I'm sure that is fake leadership just trying to get dem brownie points... other players don't see right through that.

Is he a huge Aussie rules football fan... prolly not... is it unheard of that he'd watch and appreciate another athlete? Are Australians now super in love with him? How many PR points does he get. I wonder if his PR team has a strategic tweet plan to dominate the whole world. It is the twitter pander plan...

I think it is funny that people assume others who compliment others are fake and have a reason to do so... imo it is kind of like how dishonest people don't trust others... they assume everyone is like them.

I live here i i've seen nothing in the press, mind you i haven't watched the news in days.

leading basketball stories are on Jonah Bolden's withdrawal and replacement from the boomers team and Dante's new ownership stake in an expansion team in the local league.

Roughy and Joe are mates and I would not be shocked if Joe has introduced the pair (Roughhead is a big basketball fan) and I would not be surprised if Donovan liked him, he's one of the most liked and respected players in the local league. This year as age caught up to him (he missed a season 2 years ago while receiving treatment for cancer) and he could no longer make the first team he made headlines for coaching his opponent in a seconds game.

I think you may be viewing this much like climbing a ladder -- that the farther you climb, the farther you will fall, should you slip off one of the rungs. As you've fallen head-over-heels for Donovan, you're afraid of the ramifications that now you're looking down at that massive drop and all those small people and cars scurrying around beneath you, and acrophobia is setting in.

The fact is, this is still Gobert's team. As much as Donovan has the national media attention and brought a spotlight to us, this is still the Gobert show. When Gobert signed his extension, and Hayward showed no commitment and waffled on an extension, Rudy went on a massive stretch where it was apparent that he communicated to Hayward that this was his team, and he snatched it right up from under him. Donovan came in and was able to help further our cause. He said the right things. Maybe he's not the savior we presume, but while you're looking at that terrifying fall below, the rest of us are enjoying the excellent vantage point of being above the smog of the city, and if or when we eventually tumble, it will be okay because we would have gotten hit by that bus down there had we not soared to these great new heights.

Just like when DM does all those nice things for people, fixing cell phones, going to the basketball tournament, stopping every. damn. time. for autographs (I've met the man several times at games, summer league and shoe stuff... he always stops and goes waaaaaayyyyy above and beyond sharing his time).

I think it might be that maybe... just maybe... he could be a nice guy without this huge agenda with everything he does. IDK maybe he knows he can sell 5% more shoes if he sends a tweet... probably has a template on his phone from his agent....

Congrats (insert player or person of significant local interest) on the great career. I'm a big fan of (insert team or affiliation).

John Stockton was known as being a huge dick off the court. Or, at least, really just wanting his privacy. Yet we all love him. And I have no beef with what he did off the court (hell, I’d want a lot of that same privacy myself to just be with my family). As endearing as Donovan’s off-the-court persona is, that isn’t the biggest reason for our adoration. At least not for me.

Now let’s go win some chips.

They are both really genuine/consistent imo… unlike others we've had. John never wanted all the spotlight... I think DM welcomes it. When someone is a phony people see them break character.

Rudy does not like signing autographs and is not nearly as friendly... still love him.

I’ve literally seen tweets he’s sent out and forgot to delete the part he copied/pasted where his agent sent him it and said “see if you think this tweet is okay for...” Yes these things are absolutely calculated and social media is one of the most important platforms/parts of your brand now. All those nice things he does go viral. They’re part of the reason he has the following he does. His dad works for the Mets and he grew up around. I’m sorry if I think he’s polished enough to fake it. I believed him for a while, until I felt like he’s just trying too hard. Like I’ve said he’s a legitimately good dude, that doesn’t mean he isn’t doing things for PR purposes. I have just gotten (and am getting plenty here) of blowback considering a dude who panders this much is probably a bit fake. Part of it is because he’s a good guy, part of it is also because it’s good for his following,PR, and fandom.
