Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Rashard Lewis is the guy I'm hoping he can develop into - probably a bit more creation but a bit worse pure shooter. Not really a standout defender, but not a problem either.

I've seen this comparison before and it makes a lot of sense to me. One advantage that Lewis had during his career is that he was on the cutting edge in terms of shooting 3's. He also got to the line a decent amount making him a Moreyball player before that was a thing. Ace is on the opposite side of the spectrum where he's shooting less 3's than his peers. It shouldn't be too hard to get a young player to shoot more 3's, but the Jazz have absolutely got to get him away from the mid range as best they can.

It remains to be seen how well Ace can actually shoot, but unless he's literally one of the GOAT shooters of all time he's going to have to improve on that shot distribution.

TMac was good immediately. He didn't get many minutes, but even at 18 years old he was a good player. His BPM at age 19 was 4.1. Ridiculously good teenager.

Your version of TMac is after he became what he became. Ace's skill set today is as good or better than TMac's coming into the draft in '97.

Yes, that is standardly how NBA comps work, folks compare them to who they could be in the NBA.

And don't pretend you remember TMac as a prospect. Nobody here knows anything about what TMac looked like as a prospect in the mid 90s, even NBA teams could barely scout high schoolers at that point. Fans only had 2nd/3rd hand reports, 99% had never seen Tracy McGrady play a single game before he was drafted.

We can look at how Tmac played as a teenager.....sheesh. He was so good. TOR didn't know what they had and it showed immediately once he left.

Usually I'm not one to say these kind of things, but I do think we need to invest in a veteran that Ace respects and have them in the locker room. Even if it's just someone like Jeff Green or Joe Ingles.
Yeah but once you start doing things that “appears” to “manage” him, that’s a slippery slope.

You don't want to “appear” give him special treatment in any way .
