Utah Jazz Select Walter Clayton Jr, Pick 18 (Trade)

I am always fascinated by the players drafted around a specific talent and how it all translates. Trey Lyles was picked right after Myles Turner. Klay Thompson being picked right before Alec Burks, the Morris twins, and Kawhi.

The WCJ pick will be easy to compare with Jakacunius and Jace Richardson. I really like Jace. Undersized but effective. A lot of folks here adored Jak. Time will tell. But those two will be the measuring stick for WCJ and Austin.

First of all, Trey Burke played in the NBA for 9 years. He wasn't worth the 9 pick we traded to, but getting a 9 year guy in the latter half of the draft is a win.

Second of all, if you are trading all the vets then you need a dude with gravitas, someone to come in and set culture. Clayton is that dude. There isn't a single guy on the current Jazz team that has had the success that he has or done what he has done. That is why you get him over whatever flavor of the month people a whining about us passing on.

He isnt anything like Burke...

Speaking of which, the Nets draft was HILARIOUS! It reminded me of the Minny draft when they picked Ricky Rubio (5th), Jonny Flynn (6th), skipping over some kid named Steph AND then going for Ty Lawson with the 18th. 3 point guards in a row.

Egor Demin (Can't shoot, can pass)
Nolan Traore (Can't shoot, can pass)
Drake Powell
Ben Saraf (Pass first guard)
Danny Wolf (Point Center)

So funny!

So who did they pass over that is so good (Steph Curry)?

You just draft 5 guys every year and keep the best one. Seems like a sustainable strategy. Next year draft rebounders.

That's that not the point. They grabbed 4 pass first guys who need the ball in their hands to be effective. The question is which of those guys will have the ball? And who is going to actually shoot the ball efficiently when they all pass it around to each other?
These are young balls of clay. We dont know how they turn out.

Listened to the Ringer’s draft pod. Said Clayton shot 42.4% in transition, 39.something% off screens, and 37.something% off the dribble from 3
