Utah Jazz Vs L.A. Lakers Oct.4th at 7pm

Yep, it is quite obvious that Neto isn't going to shoot the ball. Hard to be a starter when you have a deficiency that large.

Stockton didn't like to shoot in his rookie year. I remember him passing up a wide open 15 footer early in the shot clock, only to see the team chuck up a desperation shot at the buzzer. Stockton never made that mistake again.

Burks had some nice passes and played good defense but Hood was a complete disaster.

Complete disaster is a little strong, I mean, he just missed shots. It's not like he was turning the ball over or getting beat on defense.

Hood is a streaky shooter. He'll have a lot of games where he's on fire with those same looks.

Positives:
+Neto isn't going to be able to contest shots like Exum, but his defensive tenacity is going to slow down opposing teams at the point of attack.
+Hayward looks like he is going to impose his will at will
+If Pleiss learns how to set picks without jarring an opponent's jaw, he is a capable backup center
+We have Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors

Negatives:
-For working at his game all summer, Hood was disappointing
-Burke might fool's gold Snyder into giving him another chance at starting which I think would be the wrong choice.
-If the Jazz can't find a way to hit some 3s its guaranteed they will finish bottom third as a team offensively

Neto has this Stockton-esque 'you think I'm going to lose the ball but I'm still under control and will find someone to pass it to'.

Does Jamezz need to be introduced to a clip of John Stockton playing basketball?

Jamezz, have you visted youtube dot com before?

Didn't see the game, but its one pre-season game. Way too early to say someone is disappointing. As for Burke, he's our best option early. If Cotton or Neto outplay him, I hope they get the nod.

Hayward is the only player that overly impressed me. He looks noticeably bigger and even a little faster. I think he is going to shoot 7+ FTA per game this year.

Burke looked fine to me. He is the 5th option on offense. I never face palmed at any of his attempts or passes. He just missed shots. It's just preseason. As long as he takes quality shots they should start falling.

Neto played great on defense and in transition. In the half-court he made some cool passes that took advantage of our players height, which is nice because none of our players other than him really have the passing accuracy to do so. He can only be so good if he doesnt score though. I like him as a backup that can overwhelm less skilled ball-handlers. If he ever learns to score/shoot he might be the starter.

Hood just missed shots. He is going to be the only scorer on the bench so he is going to have to have a bit of chucker blood in him and sometimes these games will happen. I thought his two post-ups looked good. Got a great shot on one and got blocked from the weakside on the other, so just has to learn to recognize double teams from the post.

Burks looked good in transition with his decision making. Everything else looked like he did last year. I just think he struggles in a structured offense that forces him to think more, it will take time for him to learn.

Favors also looked pretty good but his footwork on post-ups still leaves something to be desired. Otherwise he looked pretty good. He definitively looks more comfortable shooting jumpers, even had a nice floater.

Gobert looks like Gobert. He is bigger, but he looks like the same player. Pretty much the only thing he needs to do is improve his FT% and those kind of sucked today.

Booker was Booker, high energy and fierce.

Ingles was Ingles. Slow as ****, but hit some 3's. Got crushed by Ryan Kelly on a couple of plays though, which is sad.

Julius Randle 2 out of 10. hmmm......is it Jazz's defense or the dude sucks..

Randle needs to expand his game or he's going to struggle. He had one play where he lowered his shoulder into Booker really hard, got away with an offensive foul and scored. He also got gifted a couple FTs on a bad call against Favors. He's doing the same straight-line bully-drive game he played in college, though in all fairness he was out all last season.

I know it's against the Lakers, but the Jazz looked like a potentially elite defensive team. Lakers were shut out of the 4th quarter and the Jazz got out in transition.

The Jazz became an elite defensive team the day they traded Kanter.

You mean every play?

The main thing with Burks was he just wasn't as aggressive as I thought he'd be but didn't finish on the couple drives he took.

And the one drive he did finish on didn't count because of a bs moving screen call
