Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I repeat:
Get Porter and get Mirotic.

I think its possible. I would be very happy to see that.

I would also be happy to see Oubre, OG, Fournier instead of Porter with varying levels of happiness. I would also be happy to see Love, Skal, Bender, Aaron Gordon or Jabari to varying levels of excitement instead of Mirotic.

Mirotic is the GOAT.

I mean, the question is: Can you get anything better for Hood/Burks/Favors? The answer is probably no (also the answer is the Wizards probably say no). But the Jazz arent going to have money issues until they have to start paying Donovan, and that will happen when Porter's contract is up. Then you can either re-sign Porter, who might be cheaper on his next deal, or go in a different direction as Utah will still have all their draft picks.

The Wizards have to do something about their contracts. They're at $125,229,329 this season but next season they're at $124,797,665 and that's only for ten players. For 2019-20 they're already at $107,593,646 for four players (and at that point they'll have to pay Oubre way more if they want to keep him).

Joe Johnson to Chicago with a pick.
Uhh, no. Jazz should not be trading picks.

Basically the loose guideline to the Jazz should be to try and maximize current cap-space to compete now, but also keep picks to draft players to make sure we have enough assets to make moves when 2021 rolls around and we are on Mitchell's 2nd contract.

Exactly, but trading for a RFA who is about to get paid (at least to some degree), a UFA center who you probably can't keep, and Burks (who would actually be good for them, but why do they need him and Hood?) just doesnt make sense. I dont think any trades really makes sense for them this year. Their best course of action is probably just standing pat and trying to unload people next year when they are closer to the Oubre deadline and have more information (also all their bad contracts will have a year less, making them easier to dump theoretically).

I'm not sure I agree with you 100%. If the Jazz are supposedly "maximizing on Gobert's prime", I think anything is in play if it nets us the right player.

Should we be trading picks? I wouldn't try to. Will the Jazz trade a pick for the right player? Well they have the last two years....
