Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Gordon actually has been really awful lately. Maybe just the games I watched. Not making a point that Exum is better he had just fallen off considerably.

EDIT: Yeah in January he is shooting 35/20/62. 190 points on 209 shots.
thank you ...

Here's the funny thing about Gordon:
He's a career 30.8% three point shooter. He was hot earlier this year but has cooled off quite a bit (59.1% in October, 39.8% in November, 36% December and 20.5% in January) but we're talking about him turning a corner (he has). On the other hand, we have Niko who all evidence points toward being a solid three point shooter, but is going out of his mind this year, and everyone is talking about how he's just a guy on a hot streak.

I think the big difference is that Gordon is young and has the higher ceiling, especially on defense. He's gotten better every year he's been in the league, and is 22. While Mirotic is older, he is not as good of a defensive player. I just think that Gordon fits the Jazz better, especially long-term

Gordon is shooting 35% from 3 and is very good.

I can't imagine any scenario in which Orlando would trade him
For Rodney Hood. That would make no sense at all.

Gordon can do a whole bunch of other stuff Rodney Hood can't, he's a supreme athlete. He just can't shoot the 3 well at all, and he has had nearly 4 seasons of ample playing time to show it. Fact

If I was going to (realistically) go after any player in the league right now, it would be Aaron Gordon, followed by Jabari Parker. They're young guys who fit a position of need. Rudy-Gordon-Mitchell is a hell of a core to build around.

I would go after Jabari first simply for the reason that he would probably cost less. We could probably offer expirings and take back their bad contracts (Dellie and Teletovic) and they will listen a little bit. I don't think we desperately have to send Hood AND a 1st. If we could turn Hood into an okay first (something lower than where ours projects), I bet we try the following and not get laughed at:

Favors, Joe and the attained 1st
for
Parker, Dellie and Teletovic

The Bucks get help for now, shed over $21 million for next year, and get a first for a guy they might let walk this summer if he gets too big of a deal.

THat's a big assumption the Jazz would have taken Gordon over Exum.

I think they would have. Jazz have drafted everyone Locke has fawned over in the last several drafts. 2011 burks. 2013 Gobert. 2014 he made these huge videos on Gordon and absolutely loved him. 2015 lyles. 2016 he said there was no one he loved in the draft and we traded the pick. 2017 Mitchell.

thank you ...

I don't want to be lumped into the crowd that doesn't want Gordon though. I really like Gordon. From what I've seen, which isn't all his January but some, he has had really poor shot selection. Some shots he has taken Quin would have sat him for a week. I think Gordon is a great fit and can be a 30%+ 3pt shooter and really great asset defensively.

Gordon's got a much higher ceiling overall for sure, but because we have Rudy there is specifically a premium on finding a 4 that is an excellent 3 point shooter to open the floor. Gordon's 3 pt % has gone year to year 27, 29, 28 and this year 34 % which is probably more realistically closer to 30% He's getting pretty close to the magical 750 3 pt shots attempted which is apparently a good indicator of what a players 3Pt % is probably going to stay at. I like the dude but not for our team.
