He can't get a 5-year max anywhere but here and can't get the 7.5% raise anywhere but here. Sign-and-trades are dead under the new CBA.
 
Let's say the salary cap is 108,000,000 in 2018 like it's projected right now.

Hayward signing a max with us would get a 5 year/$186 million dollar deal (!!!)
Hayward signing a max with anybody else would get a 4 year/$137 million dollar deal

He would be leaving a guaranteed year and $49 million on the table

*rough quick estimates. Point is he'd be leaving a lot on the table
 
Is everybody accounting for the fact that the team currently is pretty tight? More like a college team. They spend a lot of time together, though Hayward and Jeremy Evans used to spend lots of time gaming together.

Maybe we should go after James Johnson seeing as he's been basically making #bullDog Demarre Carroll expendable.

Just looked up the faqs and you are right on the five year max. I am more convinced we have the leverage to keep him. That's a lot of dough but I think haywards worth it and I'd rather move other pieces. He drove a damn accord for 3 or 4 years as a rookie. No way he passes on the cash. I'd rather move other parts to make us more competitive now than trade Hayward.

If the reports that Atlanta is shopping Teague are true we should be all over that. He's under contract for another year and a half which is exactly what we need with Exum likely using next year to play his way to recovery.

The Suns have a ton of young players. I think they understand and aren't afraid of the rebuild. This gets some contracts off the books and some more young depth. Knight has been a disappointment, and Chandler is great for a team trying to win now. I could see Phoenix trying to squeeze out a 1st from Boston. However Phoenix should be trying to create financial flexibility, room for the young players to grow and loses. This deal would gives the Suns all 3, and likely some future assets.
