Utes 2011 Football Discussion

They were in a position to GET INTO overtime, not already heading there before the last play. That's a big difference. In my mind, if they had been tied or ahead on that last play and USC had scored, they lost on the last play. Not when they were already losing.
They were in a position to GET INTO overtime, as you say. Therefore, they had not yet lost the game, as I say.

And technically, they were not only in a position to get into overtime, they still had time for a shot or 2 at the end zone. It was first down from the 24 yard line with the clock stopped and around 11 seconds left.

So basically every losing team, technically loses the game on the last play of the game. For instance, Utah lost to Cal 34-10 on the last play of the game. Before the last play, they had not lost yet.

Am I following your logic correctly? Utah beat UCLA 31-6 on the last play of the game. The Colts lost to the Saints 62-7 on the last play of the game. I get it.

By the way, Salty, when will your new dictionary come out? I would like to download it, because I know it won't come out in print.

BYU lost to Utah 54-10 on the last play of the game. I like playing this.

...every losing team, technically loses the game on the last play of the game... Before the last play, they had not lost yet.

To be perfectly honest, this exact thought crossed my mind.

But I think I'm going to stick to my guns with the tenacity of a, umm.... oh, some sort of tenacious animal. Can't think of one, off the top of my head.

Nice, you and Salty, two peas in a pod.
You are catching on though.
The Utes lost 18 of their 31 basketball games last year on the last play of the game.
The Utes lost to Div II Adams State in exhibition this year on the last play of the game.

I can think of two.
Salty, and Bulldogs with cropped ears.

Let's do it some more, with a bit more relevance. BYU lost to Utah on the last play of the game last season.

So you're saying all those teams had a chance to tie or win on the last play of the game? They had the ball, down by one score (or less) and in scoring position, with the clock stopped, with first down, on the last play of the game?

Oh, you were just making typical BYU fan nonsensical noise. Got it.

What? I was using your definition based on Utah losing to USC on the last play of the game even though they were down by 3 and going for the winning field goal. Did I miss something in your logic? I apologize if I have.

Ute fans are well aware of how bad our basketball team is. Really bad. They've been this way for several years now, and it's not gonna change any time soon. So, to be frank, basketball smack doesn't really hurt.

Going to the basketball card smells like desperation. You are better than that, Spazz.

I get you, and the year before that Utah lost on the last play of the game to BYU.
Over the last 24 years it is 50/50 on which team loses on the last play of the game.
Over the last 6 years it is 50/50 on which team loses on the last play of the game.
But since 2000 the Utes have won 7 of 12 on the last play of the game.
What else you got?

C'mon now, have some faith in your new HC. He is awesome and is going to turn this team around.
I also think the bball smack doesn't hurt because you "have become, comfortably numb".
