Walker Kessler Should No Longer Play Until KO is Traded

I want Vando and Kessler on the floor at the same time. Vando is hitting the corner three. I want see rebounding and defense take a giant leap.

If we go into tank mode then I would love to see these guys out there together because there is nothing to lose. What a lot of people don't realize is that Vando missed nearly 3 full years of basketball development with non stop foot injuries during his year at Kentucky and his first 2 years in the league. Then once he finally got healthy he had such specific role that he really didn't branch out from that role. This year he is finally healthy and getting the opportunity to expand his game.

I'm afraid that would be a disaster offensively. Vando may be hitting the corner three, but they're definitely not guarding him. Our spacing would be terrible and the paint would be completely clogged. There's a reason Hardy pretty much never has them on the floor at the same time.
Actually, they played their first minute together last game. 5 points scored (one 3PT, 2 FT) during that minute with +1 BPM.

Thats their total for the season. 1 minute.

Teams are going to have to begin guarding him out to the 3pt line because you can't ignore a guy that is shooting 46% from 3. Even if it is in a limited amount of attempts.

the fact they aren't guarding him is a good thing when he's hitting 46% of his threes. when a guy is that efficient, you pray teams leave him open. it's their problem if they don't guard him. if the paint is clogged, you kick it out to a knockdown shooter.

Not really. He's only attempting one 3 a game right now and he's not really getting guarded on any of our offensive possessions. When he's on the floor, the defense can use his defender to help on Lauri, Clarkson and others. Not to mention, the odds of him continuing to shoot 46% from 3 are extremely low.

I think he can be 40%+ if he sticks to only corner threes and only wide *** open. It looks real to me... he needs time to load it though... it isn't as quick as PJ Tucker's motion. So you can help off him still and get back or rotate most of the time... and he won't punish you much for bad close outs.

The issue to me is the dribble hand off stuff he isn't a threat at all. Not great as a roller either. He isn't much help at the rim as a defender. He's not quite good enough on the defensive end to make up for the deficiencies on offense. I think he's more of a 3rd big than a starter.

Yeah, the issue is definitely the dribbling/finishing. The fact that he can't beat anyone off the dribble one on one and finish is a huge nail in his potential.

There's also plenty of times in transition when he has the ball where most players his size/athletic ability could probably push the ball into the paint and make a foul happen or finish, he is just backing out and resetting the offense with a pass out.

The thing that drives me crazy is I get the grab and go thing... but a lot of times he is running alongside a guard and should drop off to that guy in transition. He waits like 1-2 dribbles too long. Especially when its Sexton running alongside him because Collin can really push and threaten the defense in those scenarios.

Yeah, him dribbling in transition feels like a novelty more than an actual threat. Sometimes he will make a good pass to someone running to the 3pt line on the break, but that's about it.

but for now he is shooting 46%. he is hurting defenses on those kick outs. until those percentages drop, they can keep kicking out. he's only hurting if he's not hitting. as long as he's hitting it's the defense's problem if they are helping off him.

If JV keeps hitting teams will eventually at least walk out to him for a closeout.

You can tell the team doesnt believe in JV as a shooter on a whole though. He made 4 damn 3's in a row and Utah could have given more looks and they chose not to.
