There was a twitter from the combine yesterday that said (paraphrasing) 'None of the GM's wants to be #1 or #2 in this draft'
I can see why. One of the ways of viewing the draft, especially by talking heads is to determine the breaks. Such as 1-2 where Noel or Mclemore could go 1-2 or 2-1. Well for this draft 1-2 are Noel & Mclemore, guys who have questions surrounding them. I heard/read that the next break is at about 10. And then it is all over the place. (Those breaks will become clearer in teh next couple of weeks.)
So if a GM takes Noel or Mclemore (who are not far ahead of the next group) and they bust while one of the next 8 explodes then the GM is going to be on the hot seat.
What I have never understood about the draft is why GM's get caught up in group think and would rather take a guy like Derrick Williams, because he is supposed to be a top 2 pick rather than drop down to a guy who may not have as much 'potential' but is more likely to be a solid NBA player.
So why not if you are the Jazz, and you are #2, forget Mclemore or Noel and get Porter or Burke or Len or Bennett if that is who you feel is the best fit.
