We seriously need to revisit Burks at the backup PG

Q is already headed in this direction, IMO. But, he's getting some good action out of his pawns right, so I expect him to keep using them while he can. Triple-wing is gonna happen, though. Plenty.

Besides the theoretical PGs, there are a lot of guys who handle the ball on this team, like Hood, Hayward, Joe Johnson, Ingles or even Diaw. Hence, putting Burks at the 1 should not be a problem at all, despite his low basketball IQ, because he would NOT be asked to actually run the team.

So Exum is healthy? Jesus, dude is basically in his second year, and had a huge injury. We're not even going to give him a chance? Doesn't he play decent defense? How bad it could it possibly be (compared to Neto)?

I wouldn't see it as no problem at all, but otherwise, yeah.

The Jazz have done triple wing a decent amount this year and I think Ingles is more likely to be the backup PG than Burks. Although the label "PG" is most likely meaningless in any triple (or quadruple) wing lineup, but I'll bet we will see Ingles bring the ball up the court more and start the sets.
That is fine. I consider the PG more along the lines of the guy guarding the other teams PG. Since we have 6-7 different players that will bring the ball up the floor.

I'm a huge Exum homer. But he's played terrible, and is simply not ready. Whether it is health or all in his head I have no idea, But he is worse now that he was as a rookie, I think he'll be fine in the long run. But this team is trying to do something this year and Exum hinders that on the court at this time.

His defense this year has been spotty at best. I think the injury is messing with his head. And he may not be 100% recovered. Having a major injury like that can really mess with your head when coming back, and it can take a while to trust it all the way.

Let's say I hope that is the issue, because Dante has been underwhelming this year.

I still think he should be getting some minutes to play his way through that though.

Do we expect to be worse next year? When will we not be trying to do something?

If we are just giving up on him then fine, I guess that's what the tanking season amounted too. I'm just having a tough time believing that the NETO to Exum drop off is so severe that 15 minutes a night would make us a significantly worse team.

I don't think they are giving up on him. I think he will be further removed from the injury and hopefully has improved with a full healthy off season.

If he doesn't help on the floor soon then he is not going to make it on this roster. We should be trying to do something for the foreseeable future.

Don't think we need to give full backup pg duties as Hayward Hood Ingles, Burks, and even JJ to be honest can run the the offense. They can all take the responsibility

I would rather see Inlges at PG and Burks at SG. Burks is a better SG than a PG. I would rather see the team play to Burks strengths than force him to do things he is not good at. I also dont think Burks can guard most the PGs in this league. Although I think we could see him there sometimes when the matchup is right. I think we have seen Quin do this already with all of the positions. Quin has been playing more of Neto when it is a shorter quick PG.

I am interested in what moves we make at the trade deadline. I think we will make a small move or two that will clear up some spots a little. I also think it will be interesting to see what happens when the playoffs come around or get close what the rotations tighten up to. Right now I think Quin is rotating through a lot of players to keep people as fresh as possible and trying very hard to prevent injuries, especially preventable ones that come from overuse/fatigue.

I suggested that a while back and people weren't too fond of it.

Burks is a key part of this team because he is the most athletic Jazz, has unique skills no one else on the roster has.
I always backed Hood starting over him but opposed trading Burks away simply because his skill set can't be replaced. Hopefully he'll embrace the 6th man role now and lead the second unit and perhaps close out some games.

Alec Burks is much faster with the ball in his hands than Joe Ingles..

Posters who don't want Burks to play PG or recognize him as a PG must like playing super slow with very little change of pace..

When Burks gets the rebound he can push pace. If we get a rebound and can outlet it to Alec w/ numbers he can push pace. If we are in our half-court offense Ingles is the better player at guarding his dribble and getting into the offense.

The "PG" label is just a technicality in the situation we play 3 wings.

My point exactly. Well put.

Agree, Cy. No reason the triple wing can't feature Burks as the PG, especially if Alec's minutes are coming against backup PG's. Burks looks like he's returning to form. He can be a real weapon as part of the 2nd unit.

It really is though. Our offense rating tanks into the ground with Exum in.

It's a small sample size on Neto's numbers but we are actually a better offensive and defensive team with him in the
game.

And for reference here is Hill's https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hillge01/on-off/2017

Bummer.

Well I guess I understand the decision but I don't think Exum will ever improve without in game minutes. Oh well.

He is going to have to work really hard this off-season. I assume he will get more chances this year to prove himself at some point.
