What's new

We should take Kanter with the 6

Kanter easily could be the "next" Gasol.

But how do we know he isn't Darko? Wasn't Darko effective in the euroleague too? Have any of us actually seen Kanter play? Or just his highlight video from ONE game?

What about his knees? I've read scouting reports indicating that he's not very athletic.

While I think Calipari generally recruits top talent (Rose, Wall, Cousins, Knight, etc), I think Kanter is an extremely risky pick. How do we know that this guy is Gasol? How do we know he isn't Darko or Oden? I just wish he had been able to play this year in college so that we all could have seen his game, competitiveness, athleticism, and durability.

i have seen him play, in euroleague and turkish league, but he was too young, he was just 16 , so he didnt get many mins. But its already a miracle for anyone who is 16 to participate in such competitions. Another example i can remember of is Rubio, he was 16 when he played in important platforms.
And enes was dominating his ages in those youth championships in europe.

So dont have any suspicion on his potential, but the thing with knee, we can never know. It may be a risk, but risk is a part of this game. There is no better player who may fall to 6 in this draft. Only other players to match his potential are Irving and Barnes.

I see other guys as a maximum allstar level, but these 3 has potential to be superstar. We will all see how things will go. But if he stays healthy, he will be much more valuable than jefferson, thats one certain thing.

I would also consider Knight.

While I'm not a huge fan of taking a PG so high, I do believe his speed and quickness could create matchup problems. And we've all seen what speedy quick PGs can do in this league with guys like Ty Lawson, Tony Parker, Barera, Rondo, Westbrook, Wall, Jennings, CP3, and Rose.

I think a backcourt of Harris/Knight and Hayward could be a potent offensive backcourt.

With hayward and favors, i think brandon knight will be a perfect addition to our young core. But he may eventually fall to 8-9. So i think, we should do everythng to move up to get him with our 12 th pick, but get another, a better piece in 6th. That would make us much better

I've come to this conclusion recently. If the Jazz don't end up with Barnes, Dwill2,Irving, Kanter then draft Perry Jones. With the 12th pick if Walker,Knight,Burks,T Jones and Donatas/Valuncias/Vessely aren't available trade down and get 2 later picks

He is not Gasol... 2 inches shorter right off the bat

Just to make a better understanding of Kanter in peoples minds;

Im from Turkey, and we have currently 5 guys in nba. Last year we got silver medal in world basketball champ. (beaten to US led by Durant) so this is the best generation Turkey ever had.

The turkish guys in nba;

Semih Erden(cavs) : rookie, he has allstar potential but he has a weird attitude, noone can predict what he is gonna do.

Omer Asik(bulls): rookie, he is a real center, but very raw on offense, still he is commented very positively by many people with his perfect defense

Ersan Ilyasova(bucks): He is the best player imo , he had the best carreer in europe, but he is undersized for power forward

Hedo turkoglu: well. i guess many people knows him, no need to explain

Memo : I think he has the least upside among other guys, but still had great performance 2 yrs ago

All the guys i explained above are good players with allstar quality but dont have the tools to pass to the next level. Enes is different, he is the best international in his generation. he can very easily be as good as Gasol, although its not right to compare him to Gasol becuz they are completely different players.

Gasol is very good, but he seems even better in LA system. However, even in his best year he had 20 ppg avg. But enes, if everythng goes correctly, he has potential to score 25 ppg a yr. Im not saying he will be a superstar or whatever, he may have a major injury and everything may go downslope, but im just talking about the potential, he is born to play basketball, he is born to score. So I think, he is the best player we can pick at 6, if a miracle happens and we win lottery, we can get Irving, which is what we need more badly, but at 6, he is the best possible.

Sepanol - can you please enlighten us as to the injury concerns regarding Kanter? I am extremely curious. I like the guy in terms of his size and his skill set and agree that he has a lot of potential. What do you know about his knee injury? When did it occur? How serious was it? Was it for both knees or just one?

Thank you very much in advance.

Interesting. Let's hope his injury isn't serious.

About the injury, i cant say something exactly. But I heard this year about his knee, that it is prone to injury. There is no exact diagnosis about it, but its just a probability, i dont see it as a high risk. I dont wanna compare it to Greg Odens injury becuz they are really different guys. Greg oden's knees r too weak to carry his body, but Enes has a more proportional body.

Other than injury, i can give some more info,

He had this stats in U16 n U18 european basket championships a few yrs ago.

U16: 22.9 ppg 16.5 rpg
U18: 19.1 ppg 14.5 rpg aprrox. in 28-30 mins
And he generally had better numbers against better players.
In nike summit played against Sullinger, 34 points,
Against Dejan musli in euro cup, 32 point 25 reb
Against Jonas Valanciunas (this yrs top 10 projected lithuanian) 35 points 19 reb

So he is not just a scorer like Bargnani, but he is a very good rebounder, he has a very smooth shooting, and they compare his fundamentals to Duncan.

Im not worried about his injury, cuz its a risk on every player, some has higher some has lower, but Blake Griffin didnt play in his first year, however this year he made a big impact.
My concern about Kanter is, he got all those attention at a very young age, so he didnt pass his last 2 yrs as he was supposed to do.
Everyone knew he was ineligible for ncaa, but he still chose to play there but his team in Turkey, Fenerbahce offered him 15 million dollar for 6 yrs (this is a very important fee in europe, and unseen before for a 16 yrs old kid) thats why he didnt wanna commit himself playing in europe but chose USA. But at least he could pass 1 -2 more yr in europe to improve himself imo.

I think all he needs is a manager or person who can help him make decisions, cuz he is still a kid, not mature enough to make his own decisions. Im afraid he will get spoiled in the biggest basketball arena of the world. Other than that he has a very good potential to be superstar. Some people criticize his athletism, but well, can u imagine what would Dwight Howard become if had his offensive skills? It would be against nature right? If Kanter had athletism, it would be against nature as well.

Thank you for your honesty and optimism, it's very rare and hard to come by around these parts.. thank you.

you are welcome,
i dont praise him cuz im turkish, as i said, I became utah fan cuz of Memo but i think he has least upside than other players. He is not a real center. Enes also is not a real center like Bogut, Howard or else, he is a PF indeed. But he can perfectly play together with Favors. They have complementing skills. If we could get a good draft pick or a decent player for Jefferson, i wouldnt hesitate to pick Kanter.
