Uhhh why?

I never even remember seeing him play this year. How do we know this guy isn't Kosta Koufus?
 
How do we know that this guy isn't Darko? So he's shooting 42 percent from the field against weak euros? That's what draftexpress shows. That's not impressive to me at all.
 
I agree with Jazzman12. Draft BPA. They might be Kanter (we don't know but judging from the info we have available to us he appears to have stud potential in him). And typically, if you're choosing between equal talents - one being a big and the other a small - you choose big because bigs have more value in the league.

Yes, if the Jazz drafts a big that means someone should get traded. And they have a few bigs that have trade value (Jefferson, Millsap, Kanter, or do you think Perry Jones has greater trade value than Kanter? ).

My hesitation on P.Jones is his lack of aggressive play. Yes, I too salivated over his size AND being able to play the 3 initially. But when I read he wasn't aggressive and couldn't help his college team in the W column, I soured.

Kanter on the other hand has some successes on his resume. Is he redundant? Sure - but he's 6'11" AND, as mentioned above, holds the Nike hoops summit scoring record previously held by Nowitzki.

IF his knees check out and he's still on the board at 6 you gotta take him. He'll have value.

To me I think this is going to be the most important aspect in drafting him ala Roy. How serious was his knee injury? How did he injure it? Was it just 1 knee or both? I wouldn't risk it (even with the 6th pick) if there is any cause for concern. It's not even close to being the same situation as Spurs drafting Blair with all his injury concerns in the 2nd round..

See this is where I have a problem with drafting Kanter. While he looks solid we already have 3 big men who are very good. You never draft a guy at 3-6 who will be a back up for years. He may be the BPA though. Many will disagree with me but if Perry Jones is there, I say take him. His potential is insane for a SF. If he lives up to it, hayward and Jones on the wings would be incredible. If Jones isn't there, then I'd go with Kanter maybe. I really like Jordan Hamilton for the 12th pick

why not trade jefferson if we find a good deal, and start kanter- favors, millsap from the bench?
 
Well having read about his injury history on Kanter, then maybe we should take the for sure thing in Brandon Knight (Calipari's PG have all excelled with a transition to the next level) with the 6th pick and see if Enes Kanter falls to the 12th pick and if he doesn't then take Jordan Hamilton or trade back to pick up Hamilton with a later pick.

in euroleague, there is much more phsycal contact than in nba. And he was 16 then, which he played really less.
Sometimes statistics lie.
But i can bet with anyone he will be as good as Gasol, he just needs a good system for him.
Gasol was an allstar in memphis, but when he found the right system, the triangle offense in LA, he is even told to be the most talented big man in the world.
Kanter has a great feel of scoring, he just needs to improve his defence and get some experience

Maybe. He's not one to easily dismiss, regardless of our strength at the position.

But how do we know he isn't Darko? Wasn't Darko effective in the euroleague too? Have any of us actually seen Kanter play? Or just his highlight video from ONE game?

What about his knees? I've read scouting reports indicating that he's not very athletic.

While I think Calipari generally recruits top talent (Rose, Wall, Cousins, Knight, etc), I think Kanter is an extremely risky pick. How do we know that this guy is Gasol? How do we know he isn't Darko or Oden? I just wish he had been able to play this year in college so that we all could have seen his game, competitiveness, athleticism, and durability.

Good points, and the reasons why he will be available at 6. Who would you like instead assuming we stay where we're at?

I'm really not sure. Who's even entering the draft? I know of two of the best players, Kemba and Sullinger, have "said" that they'd like to come back to school. Yet, that's a far cry from saying, "I'm not declaring for the NBA draft."

I'm not at all saying that we SHOULDN'T draft Kanter.

However, I think a big who we've never actually seen play, hasn't played a game in college, has a history of leg injuries, and whose athleticism is doubted, is an extremely risky pick.

I guess I'll take a stab at answering your question (even though I really don't know who we should take), I'd suggest we take the best ATHLETE available if there isn't really a clear best player available. Someone like Alec Burks or someone from Kentucky or UNC (they're all great athletes lol)
