What Do You Think The Kessler Extension Would Look Like?

I’d trade Kessler this offseason or before the trade deadline. When we get good enough to be a contender, I want a center who can shoot 3s and free throws besides protecting the rim. I was hoping we’d get one with our #21 pick. I suppose we can always trade him later if we don’t give him an overly expensive contract.

A top-down contract would keep Kessler's salary from being a burden on the team's salary cap. There's no immediate need to fill the salary anyway, and when the Jazz need to make a run, Kessler's salary would only account for a small percentage of the total.

I get your point but there are exceptions. Denver has done ok with that Jokic dude. (I agree overall about kessler though. I wouldn't go over 25 million per year and Im one of his biggest fans on jazzfanz)
 
What do you need to be a contender? Handler, scorer, perimeter defender, rim protector. We have Collier as a handler, and George will be a secondary handler and scorer. Lauri Markkanen is a great scorer who can catch passes, and Taylor Hendricks will be a full-on defender. Rim protector? You know what? Now all we need is for the prospects to grow properly, for the team to build an organic defensive system, and for an 'ace' who can break down a tough defense with his individual ability. Putting everything else aside, what the Utah Jazz needed was that "ace." And "Ace Bailey" just joined the team. He may not live up to expectations in one season. And it takes time to build this team. In the 25/26 season, the Jazz should focus on improving the individual abilities of their prospects and drop down the rankings. Then, if they select one of the top three in the 2026 draft, the Jazz can end the tanking. Walker Kesler deserves to be the Jazz's rim protector again. He's competitive enough with other centers his age, and if the Jazz were to let him go, they'd have to spend more to get a good center to run back.

If Philly had drafted better they'd have won it all with Embiid. In the last 25 years, a quarter of finals MVPs have been big men. The game evolves, players like Walker will always have value.

And now young LoPo you will be destroyed...

Well you don't get to pick the order in which you obtain the pieces to your team. The Jazz got Walker early. Should they trade him because the rim protector is the "last piece of the puzzle"? Just such a dumb statement

Financial flexibility is the most important thing prior to identifying your franchise player. Sure, we could dump Lauri I guess but I just don’t see the earth shattering implications of trading Kessler for a good haul. I see more negatives overpaying him than I do negatives from losing him.

We had the worst defense in the league with him not that it’s his fault. But still, we have a whole lot of areas to address before overpaying a guy who has clear limitations.

Shaq too. Hakeem. Embiid possibly if he could stay healthy. And ya there are exceptions. There will always be exceptions.
I think Wemby is another one.
