What does Dante get in Free Agency?

I want to see Snyder show up to a game in a dick tracy type villain suit. hat and all

2 for 16.
Maybe 3 for 24 with a TO after year 2.

I think the first offer makes better sense for him though if he has any faith in himself.

I don't feel that I have enough real info to make a good guess. It could be anywhere from QO to 4/48 for me depending on what they really think about him. They have the best info on him of anyone, but even then the injuries and lack of a big role probably make it harder to project. As a fan I really hope it is more like 4/48 (or at least 4/something) because that means they believe in him. DL offering that much would give me a ton of confidence in Exum developing correctly.

Way too much given what he’s shown on the court, his injury history, and the tight market.

If we’re gonna do 4 years because, as you’ve stated, the FO has the best info on him, it needs to be more like 4/30.

I'd love 4/30. I just don't think that is realistic. I think 4/40 would be a realistic middle ground where both sides are risking some money. But maybe the Jazz aren't that high on him. I'm just going off what they say and what Tony Jones has reported. As to whether it is a good deal or not we can't know until we see how he develops. It's entirely possible that 4/40 looks like Alec Burks in a couple years which would be bad for the championship window. At 4/40 he needs to probably be a starting level or valuable rotation player during the deal to break even.

What team(they have to have the space) is going to give us Exum a 4/40? Why should the Jazz give him a contract that no one else will?

We want to give Dante the least amount of money he will accept, but still take four years. If we lowball him too much, he'll take his chances with the QO or we end up with a 2 year deal, which will suck in two years.

So everyone knows the potential, are we on the same page that the kid has done jack **** in this league?

Or he's just not a good basketball player being paid a lot of valuable cap space.

I don't understand what low balling a 5 ppg player even means.

Because he'll just not accept a low offer and play for the QO. Again this is all determined on how they feel about him as a player. You personally might think he isn't worth it or can go kick rocks, but the Jazz seem to feel that he is worth signing/developing at this point. So it's a balancing act to find something that works for both sides. A good example of a team screwing up on something like this is Orlando with Hezonja. They gave up too soon, and now he's going to be an UFA after breaking out the second half of this season. You don't want to be in that situation with Dante.

Edit: I realize the Hezonja situation is slightly different as they didn't pick up the option. But it is a similar principle.

Again lowballing is based on projections. You aren't paying for him for being a 5 PPG player. You are paying believing that he will be worth more. This happens all the time with RFA deals. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

Obviously. That's the whole idea of this process. To some degree or another you almost always have to project future value in these RFA deals. Dante has had a weird set of circumstances that make it more difficult to project than some. He might be terrible or he might be very good. It's a tough position to be in.
