What does Dante get in Free Agency?

There's like no money in free agency this year, nobody is going to offer Dante anything, especially when they know the Jazz will just match.

Signing Dante to a contract that the Jazz won't match is the kind of move that gets a GM fired.

Anyone judging him on his stats is misevaluating the situation. This contract will be given largely on what DL believes he will be. The injuries are NOT a big concern as one was purely a freak accident.

Dante will get a 4 year deal around 32-40 million.

About 4M, that will be his qualifying offer.

Just to be clear, are you saying Utah will not offer him a long term deal, or are you saying they will, but Exum will turn down the money to play for the QO?

You're going to be wrong in either case, but I wanted to clarify anyway.:D

Or he's just not a good basketball player being paid a lot of valuable cap space.
Could happen, but I strongly doubt it. At worst, you end up with a relatively bad contract, it's never going to be a massive problem.

Obviously. That's the whole idea of this process. To some degree or another you almost always have to project future value in these RFA deals. Dante has had a weird set of circumstances that make it more difficult to project than some. He might be terrible or he might be very good. It's a tough position to be in.

Good summary dude. Going to be interesting to see what happens.
He did an interview here in the offseason and when asked about it he said and sounded genuinely happy at the Jazz, I’d be surprised if he isn’t quickly signed to a reasonable figure.
Just can’t see any team throwing a big offer at him. I’d be surprised if he played all that great when he comes back this year, next year I think he’ll take off.

I think a contract where he makes around what Jae Crowder is making seems pretty fair. Offer him 3 years and $20 million.

Lou Williams just signed a contract extension of 3 years and $24 million. Exum isn't as good as Lou obviously, but Exum also isn't a 31 year old journeyman. I think $7 per year is pretty fair for Exum considering the market. It shows we value him, but $7 million isn't overpaying that much. We don't want to lowball him so much that it could cause issues down the road.

Yo .. I mean takes the QO and then bolts

I see. But the QO for him is only 4 million from what I read in this thread. That is a huge risk for Dante to only get paid that much next year. If he didn’t get minutes, played poorly, or got injured again then he would be screwed.

Sure of course .. i just meant if they crazily low ball him like one poster suggested (which won't happen)

Pretty funny how it's worked out for Nerlens ....

I expect DL will pay around the 4 yr/40 million ,projecting where Exum will be through the contract. It will be hoped to be similar to Burks and Favors contract where through the life of it was thought to be team friendly.
Seems management expects big things from Exum and would rather get ahead so maybe after Exum explodes on the scene ,his contract will be looked at as a good contract for the Jazz but fair to Exum.
Other GM's aren't clueless ...they can see how much Jazz value Exum.

I think the Jazz could structure a 4/40 deal so that Exum is only making about 8 million his 4th season. If they could make that 4th year a team option in exchange for going the full 40 that would be fair. He'd make 11.8, 10.6, 9.3 and then 8.1 his last year. At 4/35 he'd be down to about 7 his last season.

After his next four year contract is up and he's played only 100 more games th

If it's the difference between a max slot or not it's a massive problem.

I guess we'll wait and see. There's little question in my mind that the Jazz will make an above MLE offer.

I'm not saying I would. But they will.

This is high stakes gambling. Who holds the ace in hole? I hope we get him on a fair deal and he blows up. Then in 3 or 4 years he gets a great contract and they know where we are as a team and if we need him to help us win our 2nd ring.

Dante shouldn’t have too much attention on the open market. Jazz will let his agent gauge his value on the open market, and then will likely beat that dollar amount slightly.

Can’t see any way that Exum isn’t back next year.
