What does Dante get in Free Agency?

Exum didn't show much until now. He mostly played like he was afraid and didn't look like a top 5 pick at all until now. He has a long history of injuries. It may improve or not, but I don't see anything that tells me Jazz will pay him more than 6 or 7 million $, and even that is mostly based on potential.

If he doesn't want to sign an extension, then just give him the qualifying offer.

If any team wants to pay more (unlikely since he didn't show much), then let him go. Anything over 7 or 8 million $ is just too much in my opinion. You'd have to let him go.

Exum only played 148 games in his career due to multiple injuries. He's -3,3 BPM for his whole career / -1.0 VORP. Advanced stats are bad, raw stats are bad too. No reason to pay here.

The MLE will start around $8.6-8.7 million, I believe. I can't see another team offering Dante anywhere near that. So no way should the Jazz offer him $10 mill per year imo.

I would expect them to.

He's young, he still has the dreaded "potential", and it's obvious DL still loves and values him.

If they can get a good young guy locked up for multi-years at $10 million/year, they're gonna do it. They could give him the qualifier, but then if he has a good year, his yearly price is going to go up quite a bit.

Fair enough, but fact is he only played 150 games and even before injuries he didn't show much. Who knows if it won't be even worse after the ACL ? No way you can give $10 million like that just to see what you'll get.
 
There is zero chance the Jazz won't match any offer < 10M/year. I think they match 4/48 for example as well.
4/40 would be a great deal, I think. You could possibly sneak in a team option on the fourth year, but he'll be worth that easily by then, so just don't give player options.
 
Jazz really like him. They will try and get him to sign for as many years as possible due to his value being less than what they think it will be in a couple years.

There is no way the jazz offer him 2 years and they will be disappointed if they have to match that kind of deal. I expect it to be around 4 years 40 million. His QO is more for 1 year than some are suggested in here for multiple years.

Nobody (with cap space) is going to offer Exum a big short-term contract. It's a completely different situation than KCP.
 
What do you guys think represents a good year for him? What type of progress will give you confidence in pulling the trigger on a 4 year, 40M contract? Put yourself in DL shoes

In my humble opinion:
  • Health the rest of the way
  • Good chemistry with DM & Rudy
  • Elite defense. His injury shouldn't have affected his ability to stay in front of his man
  • Improved 3pt+ ability to shoot off the drible (just like he showed in SL)
  • Averages of 8ppg, 3rpg, 3a on 43%/33%
I'm not sure he will attack the basket aggressively as he may be concerned of getting injured again
