What Happened to Katie?

franklin

I'm well aware of how prevalent sexual assault is.

I think there are certainly varying degrees of mental illness that could lead a person to act out in sexual ways. I don't think the majority of sexual predators have such distorted views of reality that they "think differently" in a fundamental a sense as to approach this in some way that is impossible to understand.

Your friend who had sex with girls in a bathroom... was this a bathroom in an elementary school? A grocery store? Some other place that one might expect to find children?

EDIT: on second read, you're saying your friend had sex with consenting adult women, right? Not nonconsenting underage "girls."
Are you saying that children are the only ones that can be affected by sexual predators and they are the only ones we should think about or worry about?

I also know males who have masturbated in bathrooms at work and school. I don't know any women that have, but I don't think many women would tell me about it if they did. I would assume that a female has masturbated in a public restroom before though. I understand that the perception is that females are less sexual than men but I would bet that it happens.

So again, I'm not arguing that transgenders should not be allowed in women's bathrooms. We both agree that they should.
But you brought up a new argument. What goes on in bathrooms? You seem to think peeing and pooping only. I'm telling you that due to experience I know that to not be the case. Do you agree with that?

So again, there could be a scenario, however unlikely, where a woman is doing something in a bathroom besides peeing or pooping that could potentially be affected by a sexual predator who normally would not enter a women's bathroom but who sees transgenders as males, just like himself, being allowed into females bathrooms and feels that now it's ok for him to go into the bathroom or sees the new laws as a loophole for him to exploit.

Again, this is a sexual predator who doesn't think logically and whose brain doesn't function properly.

I think I already addressed the fact that the barrier against unusual activity in the bathroom will remain firmly in place.

I'm not convinced. Think like a predator for a minute. Where would you go to prey? In Utah County there is a well traveled trail that extends from up Provo Canyon to the lake. Granted, on the trans side of things, there is not an extreme amount of rape and murder there but there is some, as it is prime "hunting grounds". If I had daughters I would not allow them to run that trail.

These situations exist all over, not just in a restroom. However, in our culture a restroom is considered a place of refuge. IDK if women enter a man's restroom as men can't be raped :p. IDK if gay dudes go into a man's restroom. My concern is strictly for the safety of vulnerable women. As jazzgal said in a different thread, they already deal with the threat of sexual abuse on a daily basis. I don't think adding to that stress is better than taking away the stress of a very small portion of the population.

Let's keep in mind, the change in the law is that it is NOW criminal in certain places for a person to use a bathroom that is not consistent with the gender on their birth certificate. That is what has changed.

So, up until now there hasn't been a major issue even though it wasn't criminal to use a bathroom that was different than the gender on your birth certificate. But yeah, armageddon is coming, for sure.

Sex, not gender. Gender is man/woman/boy/girl. Sex is male/female. Not having distinctions is pretty problematic and seeing them incorrectly put on applications and questionnaires is depressing at times.

I don't think this is correct. Prior to the Obama administration edict I haven't heard there was any legislation regarding this situation in any state. Things were working fine as they were. It was a non-issue. As a result of the administrations action North Carolina wrote a law. Now that they have the federal government and others have come down hard on them. Seems like it would have been best for the feds to have just left this issue alone.

No, Charlotte passed a non-discrimination law that included bathroom protections for transgendered people and the state legislature didn't like it and forced a repeal with its law.

I just wonder what kinds of experiences some of you have had in bathrooms.

Here's a random, not related experience I had.

I was heading to Wendover alone (I prefer it that way) and had to pee like a Russian race horse. I stopped at that rest stop about 50 miles from the boarder IIRC, the one with the plaque about the lake in between the men's and the women's restrooms. For those who don't know, this is basically in the middle of nowhere and often very unused. There are separate men's and women's buildings and there is a sandstone looking wall outside of each that creates a walkway. As I pulled in, there were two suspect looking dudes sitting in a car (yeah, I stereotyped mf'ers), who got out and followed me into the restroom. I noticed, and instead of going inside I walked out to the Salt Lake plaque and pissed there. Both went inside the restroom and then one came out, allegedly looking for me and on his cell phone reporting to his buddy.

The both of them are lucky I don't tote guns or I would have entered a stall instead, shot them and left 'em to bleed out.

Ahhh, pissing outside. I love it too.

So I'm watching this netflix show right now called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and a (white) guy on the show says that he is transracial lol. He got offended when someone called him white. He is a white guy who identifies as a black guy.
Would be funny if this became a real thing.
