What's new

What is the jazz doing!

Its about odds rather than guarantees. They have a better chance to draft embiid at 1 or 2 than 5.

Let me ask you this? Did winning an extra 3-5 games that season do anything for the jazz franchise? Could we have even possibly done worse in the draft than we did?

They did let me enjoy 3-5 extra games that season.

And no, they couldn't have possibly done worse in the draft. Though if they would have drafted the consensus #2 pick, they would have been as equally worse.

And there's no guarantees they would have had a higher draft pick if they lose 3-5 more games anyway., though I guess the odds are better They got jumped in the lottery, and would have had to lose at least 10 more games to guarantee themselves the 4th pick that year. Plus, the only way they're drafting Embiid is if they would have lost 5-6 games and then pray that the ping pong balls would have magically fell their way again with a better team jumping Milwaukee in the lottery for pick one and the Milwaukee winning the 2nd pick. If the Jazz win the lottery that year or get 2nd, there's no doubt in my mind they pick Wiggins or Parker.

So yeah, losing 4-5 games in 2014 would have improved the odds. But not by much, since the odds of the Jazz drafting Embiid were miniscule to begin with.

Not sure if the OP is 100 percent serious or not, but just enjoy watching this team get better each and every game. Tanking is out of the picture, and thank **** imo. Because as I have said before, what is the point of watching your team if you really don't care if they lose or not?

Making the playoffs, even as the last one in, will help this team tremendously whether some think that or not.

Enjoy the ride.
Maneesh is an alt of one of the regulars. He's been around for years. Brings some levity to the board. But the ensuing discussion has been a good one, especially the first reply.

No crying. With restrospect if you could have the jazz lose a few more games in that tank season so we end up with embiid rather than exum would you want that to happen?

Why not aim higher, lose even more and pick Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins and miss out on Embiid by drafting guys ahead of him?

You dont miss out on embiid by drafting before he gets picked. In fact its the oppisite. If you draft prior to a player being picked then you actually have the opportunity to draft that player. Who hasnt been picked yet.

I think he is just assuming the picks happen in the exact same order they actually DID happen, regardless of which team is picking there.

In other words, going back to that scenario at that time with the info we had at that time, if you had the first pick, who do you choose? Not using the knowledge you have now. The assumption is that the picks likely still happen in the order they actually did as most teams probably had the same view of the players at that time.

I choose wiggins. And I think wiggins would be the better player to exum. If I had the number two pick I would have picked embiid. I think he would be better than exum as well. Even Jabari and Smart are preferable to exum imo. Gordon too. Btw I was always against taking exum. I would not have picked him. I would have taken randle before exum as well.
I also dont think any games we won that year did anything positive for the jazz franchise.

Five years on it's really easy to say you would pick the player that turned out the best. Yet, every single year a dozen teams with the best talent evaluators in the world pick scrubs ahead of the Donovan Mitchells and Sabonis and SGA etc.

Ya my post is a reflection of how i would have drafted before the draft happened. I loved wiggins and thought he would be better than he has been. Embiid would have been my second choice. I never liked exum at all.
