What to do with Taylor Hendricks year one

I think the reality is going to be minutes will be rotated on the back end unless someone is really playing exceptionally well.

Im more of a blank slate guy and we just haven't seen anything out of either two dudes yet. Brice has legitimate star scoring upside so he should be invested in as much as Hendricks

Samanic is only partially guaranteed. If Hendricks can beat him out by mid-season, Hendricks could take that rotation spot. He could also beat out Fontecchio in the rotation at some point. He's just going to need to earn his minutes. I think he's a 4 though. I'd expect him to backup John Collins.
At this point I'm not sure I couldn't beat Fontecchio out for a rotation spot. Hendricks shouldn't have a problem.

Not how things work in reality at all

It's how Hardy did it last year and how he publicly stated he liked doing.
It’s not how he did it. Guys win rotation spots and then if they don’t play themselves out of the rotation they kinda stay there until an injury or in our case a trade happened. Unless there was load management the rotation was the rotation.

Once it was tank season you saw THT and Ochai getting a bunch of burn… they collected dnps when healthy.

I think Hendricks is probably the only rookie that's gonna get minutes from the jump. They've stressed positional size and I think he pairs well in lineups w/o Kessler on the floor because of his shot blocking.

I agree RE: the 5.

And I know the difference between 3 and 4 is basically zero, so I'll just say that I think Hendricks should be able to guard any perimeter wings, plus do some banging with the bigger powerwings in the interior. He's a big, switchable wing.

His recipe for minutes is pretty straightforward to me: (a) hit his threes and move ball, (b) very solid man-to-man defense, (c) the awareness of when to rotate and protect the rim as a help defender.
Aside from the obvious strengths most people talk about (good shooter, defense, rebounding, good at running the floor) his catch-and-shoot numbers in college were really good, which has me super excited. He's going to be clutch for us in the NBA and he'll get a ton of open looks, not that he necessarily needs them.

He also has a good basketball I.Q. on both sides of the ball and as you mentioned I agree - he'll be a solid help defender.

Hendricks is going to melt the faces off the JF posters who are sleeping on him. It feels like there are only a handful of us who are really high on him.

There are some folks who aren’t big fans… he will have ample opportunity to prove himself… I’m a believer… the organization obviously believes in him.

I do wonder how much Taylor Hendricks some have actually watched. I think there are reasons to like him, I also had him at #9 like the Jazz....but some of the excitement about him seems misguided. For example, when Andy Larsen compared his shot blocking to JJJ. That is absurd from pretty much any kind of perspective beyond only watching highlight clips. If you watch actual film or just do a basic simple analysis it not hard to see how absurd that comparison is, specifically in terms of shot blocking is. Like in what world do we compare that very best player at a certain skill to someone that is.....good for his position. I also feel like there are some things that are clear negatives/improvements areas for him that are being presented as positives. I don't know where that's coming from.

The Jazz obviously believe in him and showed that by drafting him 9th. But they also came right out and said he was their last choice at #9 and made/attempted to make moves that make his path to minutes cloudy. With that in mind, I have little to no expectations for him playing early on. It's not like when the drafted Jazz got Trey Burke or Donovan Mitchell and clearly had plans for them early on. There's not a lot of clear, open minutes to begin with....especially if this stuff about Ochai is actually how the org feels about him.

There is nothing rough about Hendricks game. He has some skills like shooting, finishing at the rim and defense that are going to translate immediately.

I hope you are right but I know you are wrong
