What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Agree with this. The 2nd one had easily 30-40 minutes of orc-fight that could be edited out without changing the story one tiny little bit.

I have a problem about watching movies that occurred since maybe a year and a half or so. I cannot stay awake during the 2nd halves. No matter how excited I am to see a movie, the whole thing gets dull and unreal for me and I fall asleep. Or maybe it's just the dark calling me to sleep, I don't know. Those scenes you've mentioned were the missing parts for me from that one. I slept through a big part of the 2nd half.

Oh that's too bad grampa

Just saw it. It was good. Not great. And not promising I fear. But good enough to watch. It started right off and led to a decent amount of excitement, but ended in a risky spot. Because you can smell the chance of the plot failing to get exciting and lead to a dull concept. But it sure has enlisted my name to the list of people that are going to see it in theaters. The girl's part watered it down a bit and the lead woman is not my first choice to be the mysterious director of some large facility or experiment. I didn't quite get the mood from her. It was going 6 to 8 over 10 and ended about 5 for me, but it left the door open for a legit 8 overall to define the excitement level for me.

I agree, I was liking it at first but I think I hated the second half more than you. To me it was a terrible second half.

Saw this in 70mm in LA the other day. I think it's really interesting. Phoenix is basically a stoner detective and the whole movie makes you feel like you're a stoner too (the plot is pretty incomprehensible).

I don't like it as much as The Master or There Will Be Blood (at least that's my initial reaction), but I liked it and it left me with the feeling that I need to see it again to try and understand it more. PTA is definitely one of my favorites.

You read the book Spy?

I tried reading some Pynchon (V) earlier in the year. Not the easiest author in the world, his books are require some focus (was being with class reading so I couldn't really give it enough attention. I would read 100 pages and come back to it 2 weeks later and forget everything that happened), so it makes sense that the movie would be difficult to follow also.

I'll be seeing this soon.

Finally watched Locke. Solid flick. I was worried for a little while that it'd be like that ****ty phone booth movie, but thankfully it is not. Legit writing. I think everyone likes Tom Hardy, amirite?

Also watched Under the Skin. Cane out last year sometime. Some pretty gnarly experimental **** in there. Just a cluster**** of confusion as far as the plot goes, but it makes you think a little. Pretty okay. You get to see many shots of Scarlett Johansson's butt, so it's very delightful in that regard. She's well put together.

I haven't read anything by him. But yeah, it sounds like everyone who has read the book says that it's really difficult to understand too.

I know PTA'S screenplay got Pynchon's stamp of approval, fwiw.

Still Alice - Very good movie about a professor that gets early onset Alzheimers and the toll it takes on her family and her. Worth seeing once for sure.

The Babadook - Genuinely creepy movie. Not super scary but definitely unsettling at times.

22 Jump Street - Not as good as 21 but still had a lot of funny moments.

The Guest - Loved it. Shoot em up thriller with a dark comedy edge. One of my favorites of 2014.

So I watched Inherent Vice and VINYL & spycam warned that it was hard to follow. Yeah I would have to agree with that, you can just sit there wondering what the hell is going on with these characters with no explanation given. This is a big drop down from what I expect from a great director. It's too bad because there are some great moments, unfortunately wasted when the end product is rather underwhelming.
