What's up with Ingles?

I would be fine with Conley off the bench. He can still be the closer. This would also be a way to possibly limit his minutes. He would play more against backups, and so have a bigger impact potentially. But like I said before, it looks like Quin is already kind of balancing this out as Conley comes out normally pretty quick in the first on his rotation, then comes back in with the bench guys frequently. Might all be moot. But I could get behind bringing Conley off the bench and starting Ingles. Gives you another plus defender with size in the starting lineup. Nothing wrong with that either.
Early returns indicate that Conley’s PnR defense is pretty damn good.

You know where I’ve been on this issue historically.... But I’m won over as long as Conley’s defense is this good.

Random/Unconnected related thoughts:
- Possessions are going to become even more scarce when Gay gets healthy
- Being home for an extended period should help
- The league has kind of figured out the Joe/Rudy PNR
- He needs to be on a rest schedule

Only issue with Conley is that he only guards one position and you can't hide Mitchell on some PGs.

He's been guarded pretty tight with very few wide open opportunities. He worked well with Favors in the second unit. We saw a similar outcome without Favors two seasons ago.

I think he is coasting a bit. Not the type of guy to take games off entirely. Conley is taking a lot of rest games (they're the same age) but Joe keeps truckin alomg. He'll be fine.
Ok except I have seen him pass up many wide open threes with my own eyes.

Or play your rookie point guard who is a good passer. He'll figure it out. We need Butler to give Conley and Joe a rest before the playoffs, might as well develop him now.
Agreed.

What's wrong with Joe Ingles? Nothing. We have this conversation several times every year. Sometimes Joe passes up shots, that's just who he is as a player. Every player has their weaknesses and this is just one of those reoccurring issues that's bound to pop up from time to time.

There's only so much usage to go around anyways. Compared to last year Mitchell, Bogdanovic, and Whiteside (against Favors) are taking more usage. When you have so many guys who want to shoot and handle the ball someone has to get squeezed out. I'm sure we'll see Joe more engaged if there's a longer period where Conley or Mitchell sit again. It's the same story every year and it's fine. Joe's been our best player outside of the top 3 for years. The ability to be effective and provide value in a lower usage role is especially important for this roster.

We al love Joe but I also commented on this the other day that he is passing up more wide open shots than usual and seemingly more invisible/passive or disinterested. I think it also could look more noticeable because he and Conley have been the 2 most consistent shooters and so when he passes open a wide open shot it is more frustrating and noticeable as well as he does have a lower usage rate makes passing up wide open shots more noticeable.

That's not to say I'm worried for reasons already stated but does have me pause and wonder if he is thinking or realizing based on either his mental fatigue or how his body feels this could be his last season.

I think when Gay comes back it should help as well as in classic Joe style he'll turn it on when he decides to and make us all look like fools for complaining.

Oh yeah and meant to add, for those that have said Ingles plays better when he starts, that is has not been the case this year (in it's small 3 game sample size).

Jazz Nation posted a pretty brutal SLCDunk.com article about Ingles on Facebook, I believe today. Says his minutes should be cut.

Jingles will retire in a Jazz uniform. We've gone this far, might as well see it through the end. But we can't afford to have both Jingles and Bojan on the team. It's double of the weakness for other teams to take advantage.

Ingles is a better defender and better player than Bogey/Clarkson. He’s not duplicative.

SLC dunk and their "articles" are the absolute worst. My 95 year old Grandma knows more about basketball than the dumbasses that write for them. I stick to articles from real journalists like Tony Jones and Andy Larsen.
