When will Jefferson have breakout season?

You just love jumping on people's throats to make you feel better about yourself, dont you?

There was LITERALLY no implied statement anywhere in the OP's post; in fact, most people who are familiar with this board and sepanols posts on it show that hes generally pessimistic towards Big Al. Way to go, *******.
Just seeking a clarification, dalamon; thus the dual questions in my post.

Keep your jersey on.

I don't understand why everyone is sold on his offense. It wasn't good this year. Al is a ball stopper who doesn't put that much pressure on defenses because (1) he shoots under 50%, (2) he shies away from contact, and thus doesn't draw fouls that would lead to easy points (1 & 2 combined make him a rather inefficient scorer), and (3) his vision is poor, with few of his passes leading to easy buckets/open shots for his teammates. If we're banking on his individual offense making up for his poor team play, he's going to have to be a lot more efficient.

Can't we just give the guy a year to see what he does. He comes in works his ... off and everyone expects him to be the next shaq or something. How many big guys in this league don't have something wrong with them? Everyone of them have something that fans complain about. The Jazz get rid of all their starters from a year ago and expect the chemistry to be great all of a sudden. As long as favors starts next year I think that will help big al a lot. Not like you are going to be getting any all star players on this team anytime soon. Also not too many players I would want to trade for unless you are looking for an overpriced player. And people on this board will complain about them just the same. I seen a lot of positives on where this team is headed and I would rather have him then do what we have been doing by over paying for players (boozers,ak). At least he hasn't gotten hurt which says a lot for this team.

while attempting a pass out of a double team, and learning to play help defense.

The question is whether thats ever gonna happen?

My biggest problem with big al is his poor basketball iq, i dont know how much he can improve himself in this sides of the game

I agree, and i would prefer to say, he is an offensively skilled big man, but he cant use his skilled as efficiently as he is supposed to. Thats what i mention about his basketball iq, his vision is poor, if he has 3 options in a position, he generally chooses the worst option and make a bad decision if he is under pressure.
Also he has a really bad mid range jump shot, so how much we can benefit from him in playoffs where everyone will be much more intense in defense and close the gaps under the rim.

Randolph had a perfect post season because he has lots of weapons, does Big Al have those?

However i still respect Big Al's offensive skills and i think he is very much above standard in offensive end among big men. But if i look at the Benefit/Loss ratio, while we have plenty of other big men, which are really good and promising, a big man who is paid 14 million per year and who has no plus on defense (except blocking) is more than expandable if we can get a good trade deal.

I like where your head is at Big Dawg.

Who are you comparing his mid-range jump shot to? Because from what I have seen all season, his mid range jump shot has been above average to good all season.

What?

Dont recall Big Al ever ****ing up from lots of pressure and making the wrong choice when the game was on the line last season. quite the contrary actually; his clutch percentages and totals have been posted numerous times in this forum

also, GVC, does synergy have a percentage calculated for players and their mid-range shooting? Because I don't recall Al clanking too many; given, he never shot too many of them, but from what I recall the ones he did shoot usually had decent form, and would go in. Its definitely not an active part of his offensive repertoire, but its something he could use more often

What?

Didn't see this post when I posted mine, rep'd. I recall him shooting quite well AND with good form all season as well. Just didn't deploy it nearly as often as someone like Millsap. Hell, he probably made more than Kirilenko.

Per 82games.com, AK's eFG% on jump shots was .420, Jefferson's was .418. Neither of those numbers is particularly good, but AK plays the 3 and AJ is a post player, so...

I don't get why people say he's good at offense and bad at offense.

I'd say he's neither good or bad at both.

How many shotputs did he miss last year? His pick and pop offense sucks. Basically, he either has to receive the ball for a dunk, or get by with that spin baseline move. Otherwise, he's pretty worthless. I didn't see a very effective or dominating offensive player last year. If anything, Millsap was the offensive player.

At defense, I didn't think it was that bad. His pick and roll hedging was pathetic. But then again, all Jazz bigs seemed to suck at that.

He was often slow at rotating.

But his shot blocking and man to man defense seemed ok to me.

To me, Al just isn't that good. He's not Karl Malone. He's not a franchise big. He's just an average big man in this league. A guy that could score in bunches, but isn't a franchise scorer. A guy that could block a few shots, but probably isn't going to be a very good defensive player.

A mixed bag =average player.

Hence, why we all hope and pray that Kanter/Favors develop into that franchise big. Neither Millsap or Al are going to be more than role players.
