Where's all the Burks Hate Now? ? ?

I am not often in agreement with Franklin...But regarding Burks I am. I don't see why so many fans love him. I don't see much more than an out of control ball hog on at least half of the possessions he gets the ball. The guy has athleticism and talent. But seems incapable of or unwilling to play a team oriented game. I am far from sold on him being anything but a scorer off of the bench and a possible 6th man role.

I haven't liked his play at all during the preseason. But then I remember how he performed when Mo was injured last year and my optimism returns.

zulu, you gotta trust me when i say that though burks has great potential, he will never shoot a high fg% (likely under 42% his entire career) and he will struggle to be a part of a team concept. He has no understanding of effective off-ball play and he doesn't want to be a great or perhaps even good defender. It hurts me to say this because back in 2011 i had huge hopes for the guy, but it is what it is. Would not be surprised to see burks traded this year while he still might be able to merit some intrigue from other teams.

This is my fear somewhat as well, but maybe with less BBall IQ than CJ. I shudder at the thought.

Also, Rush is the question mark now. Before he went down with his injury he was solidly above anyone we have at the wing right now. In 65 games with GS 2 seasons ago he had 13 pts/5 reb/2 asst/1 bl/1 st 50% overall and 45% from 3, 79% from FTL (per 36). He was a top notch perimeter defender and a smart player with way higher BB IQ than Burks, and could score in bunches when needed, from about anywhere on the court. If he can come back to form I would prefer we keep him over Burks. Injury is his achilles heel (pun intended), so that could slow him down year after year potentially. But I am excited to see what he can do, especially when the field is open for him on a team of young guns in which no one is the designated go-to guy just yet.

Rush is probably going to be trade fodder (or at least should be) if he returns to form and the Jazz are terrible. Retaining him for sensible money becomes very unlikely for a UFA looking for a pay day and a player like that is always in demand. If he wants too much to stay (that's providing he'd even entertain the notion, but let's just call the MLE the divider between sensible and not), you can't meet that money or exceed it because - for the millionth time - net negative assets are basically never a good thing no matter how you break it down. That said, if the Jazz get the read that he might stay for sensible money then I think he's definitely a keeper.

The importance of asset management cannot be overstated. Get what you can, when you can, and where you can then move on. Remember Ronnie Brewer.

Me too. And I've mentioned this before, but from one of Lindsey's interviews it was very clear that he was viewing Rush as a potential long-term part of the Jazz.

I remember when we traded Ronnie Brewer. And then we traded D Will because he was pissed that we traded Brewer. But yeah, Brewer was never worth what he was asking for, and now is almost out of the league.
