What's new

Which free agent is going to want to come to Utah for their ring?

If you sign any of them Burks is your 6th man.

I doubt it. If we sign Matthews he'll get a lot of playing time (35 minutes a game or so) and won't be the first to be subbed out. If we sign Leonard and he stays at the 3 then Hayward will be moved to the 2- he won't be subbed out first either. If Pierce would be signed either he or Burke would be the first to be subbed in - depends on the situation though as far as how Exum is playing.

It is amazing to me that we are plausibly talking scenarios where the Jazz have to many wings instead of to many bigs. The Bigs are settled so now they are fixing the wings.

WOOT WOOT!!

Try to sign Mathews/Leonard/Butler (Mathews at around 14 per year, offer Leonard (near-max) or Butler (the max)). I think Butler would be matched but Matthews or Leonard is a possibility. Then sign Pierce as a 6th man.

No thanks to Matthews at 14m a year with him having just torn his achilles. Players usually have problems coming back from that. Butler and Leonard will be matched at a 99% probability.

The Dragon will shock the world and decide the mountains and people of Utah remind him of home and spurn the warmth and glitz of Miami.

Jimmy Butler

I can see the Bulls committing their future to DRose and Butler feeling left out.

We would have to throw SOO much money at him but I love that idea.

Exum/Burke
Butler/Burks
Hayward/Hood
Favors/Booker
Gobert/Draft or FA

No, it would most definitely be the other way around. The Bulls will keep Butler.

But we can all at least dream for awhile. That would be quite the roster...

Although if we are dreaming lets just trade for Kevin Durant. Thats a championship team.

Exum Burke
Hayward Burks
Durant Hood
Favors Booker
Gobert Tomic

100% wrong

Our 3 main pieces on this team are ready to win. You don't torture them with another tough year. We don't have time to be dicking around with Hayward. We have to make him happy before he becomes a free agent.

I kind of liked zman's thinking but I think you are right, now is the time. 2nd round+ next year and playing in the WCF or even Finals the year after. We are right about where the Jazz were in 1994.

100% wrong.

Our 3 main pieces are winning and next year will make the playoffs. It is unrealistic to think they will go far in the playoffs regardless of who they might pick up. No playoff experience. So then you are paying big bucks to a vet who will be starting to decline while the rest of the team is maturing. Not needed for next year, getting to the playoffs ought to satisfy them.

And yes, the Jazz have really improved and we all love it. How many great vets are now out there drooling about getting here next year, when we are still a lottery team. Too soon, too early. Patience.

I misunderstood you. I thought you were thinking another year of development without really expecting to make the playoffs.

I think this team, the fans, and the front office should all be thinking playoffs. I wouldn't expect a Finals trip, but definitely playoffs. And to do that, they could use a little help. I wouldn't be adding an old vet with this young team either. Definitely a sub 30 year old. If we could miraculously land Butler or Leonard, then you do it. The goal should be to add the best young player possible.
