Wemby is such a difference maker that the Spurs had 22 wins last year. The same as they had the year before.
Yeah, cuz they tanked. You think not playing a point guard for half the year and using a ****** point guard for the other half of the year was an accident?

Wemby is great, but it will be a miracle if he makes it to the end of every season in good form even in his prime. His ethic and training I think will make a big difference but you can’t erase that he’s 7’ 4” and plays like a guard. I think the highs will be unbelievable but there’s going to be gaps. We just need gaps once we’ve built the team right, even if Wemby is unbeatable (which is not guaranteed).

TLDR; Wemby will not win seven titles in a row. Or three. Or maybe even one.

You think it’s more likely a recent MVP (one of the greatest two-way players ever) and one the greatest shooters of all time become available for two premium future-facing assets, each? Lauri also isn’t quite as good as Paul Pierce (Pierce was super clutch).

It’s worth noting that strategy hasn’t worked since.
They're both microscopic likelihoods.

When is the last time a team won a title in Years 4-6 directly through tanking in Year 1?

Thats fine. But anointing this guy as the next Hakeem is laughable. That’s essentially what Cy is doing. So much more goes into being elite at a sport than having the talent and skill. And so more goes into being elite as a team than one player…who isn’t even elite yet.

Simple question:

Do you think it will be easier to compete for a championship in the next 3 years or the following 3 years after those 3?

For reference, I'm using those years because that is the time left on Wemby's rookie deal.

Basically do you think it's easier to get a title in a strong West but a West that doesn't have a true front runner, or when Wemby will be entering his prime and still on an affordable fun max and not the 3rd contract max.
If we go for a title now it’s another move towards being mediocrity. Anyone that thinks we will be contenders over the next three years is delusional. This is mind-boggling dumb question thinking you can be championship contenders in the next three years. unless you add a top 10 player in the next two years.

His only question mark is health. It’s a big question mark, but he’s the surest thing since Lebron and it’s not close.

I just asked if its easier to compete now or later.

basically do you think its easier to compete against a loaded field, but no top end dynasty type team, or against Wemby, who could very well be a dynasty type team in the years I listed.

I personally don't believe you should base personnel decisions based off of this stuff.

However, to answer the question I went with 28-30 being more difficult to win a title. Not only is Wemby potentially an all time great, you might be dealing with peak OKC if they build that right. OKC is going to be really good as soon as next year, but just imagine when Chet and Jalen are at their peak. Then you have the 2015 and 2016 draft class that could be all time greats starting to make their teams better. The league is going to continue to have tons of talent.

I'm just asking a question. I'm not even asking anyone to think about it through the Utah Jazz, just in general.

I think the next 3 years will have more parity than the following. I think the next 3 rings are up for grabs. After that it *might* be Wemby's league.

Also, it's not guarantee the West is any less strong in those following 3 years while Wemby is in his 2nd contract. It might be just as strong with the behemoth Spurs/Wemby at the top. Another reason why I think the clear answer is the next 3 years.
