Given Exum's situation, we should be able to extend him inexpensively, but we'll probably just wait for free agency.

LMAO at you still stuck on this stat dweeb stuff. Exum came into the league as a kid who hadn't played college ball. Anyone expecting anything that first year was always an idiot.
His second year, he was coming off a very serious injury that takes a lot of recovery time, and has the potential to ruin a career. The first half of that season was meaningless, and the second half he couldn't get minutes because we were too busy trying to keep Hayward. Idiots were making the same stupid bust comments about Jabari Parker for a couple months when he was coming back from the same injury. People with unrealistic expectations are just dumber than mud.
Dante may or may not be really good player in this league, but anyone pretending to know for sure is a complete idiot, as is anyone making comments to the effect that he's done nothing/shown nothing.
If Donovan Mitchell had been drafted a year earlier, he would have had his *** glued to the bench just like Exum, after the way he started the season. And then by the end of the year, we'd have the same dumbasses making defining statements as to who he is as a player, much like Archie was doing after a few games. Really ironic how many Archies we have on this board in regards to Exum.
I was responding to someone that said Exum should be the Jazz' "#1" offseason priority, higher than Favors and Hood. Favors has more than 30 times as many career win-shares as Exum. 30 TIMES!!! Hood, who has played fewer than twice as many minutes as Exum, has ELEVEN TIMES as many win-shares.
Yeah, Exum is much younger and less experienced of course his career win shares are less. Exums future contract is based on potential. Should JJs next contact be a bigger priority than anyone else on the Jazz?
Pretty sure the deadline was Oct. 16. The Jazz cant extend anyone at this point.

The way things look now is that we have two stars: Gobert and Mitchell. Ingles has become probably the fourth best player on the team. It seems it comes down to keeping Rubio or Dante. Can we keep them both? Should we? I like the vets Joe Jesus and Sefolosha. The rest of the team needs to be evaluated for possible moves. Definitely need a young stretch 4 to pair with Rudy. Favors has definitely peaked and may never again be more than an average player -- or perhaps the evolution of the game with the emphasis on the 3-pt shot has turned him into an average player.

Ancient history. Hey, why not dial up Karl Malone and bring him back? He probably has 30x the win shares of Favors. It's great to wax nostalgic over the player Favors WAS a few years ago. But that player is dead. What we're seeing is a player with reduced mobility on both ends of the floor. Favors is a low-end rotation player.
As for Hood and Exum, Hood clearly wants to be paid a ton of money. But he's not a #1 option. Great players don't go through slumps like he's had for 2 games. He can't carry the team when others are struggling. And he plays a position where Utah has a potential star in waiting. The deadline is a perfect time to get value for him and elevate Mitchell to starter.
Exum may or may not pan out. The injuries have been unfortunate. But if he comes at a discount, the Jazz should try to keep him - unless DL needs the cap space to sign a great free agent. He'd return as a backup combo guard, though. That may not be what he wants, but I doubt any team sees him as a starter. You never know what will happen with Rubio at the end of his contrct. He could George Hill us and want a huge deal to stay. And in that case, it would be nice to have Exum and Mitchell as the potential backcourt tandem.

Per my post above, I think you try to keep both, unless cap space is needed. I like a 3-man rotation of Rubio, Mitchell and Exum. Notice the absence of Hood. I'd trade Rodney to bring in a starter at the 3 or 4. Just don't think he's worth the money he'll want. And doing so would keep Mitchell on the bench. Getting a good 4 is essential. I like Ingles better off the bench, but he can hold down the 3 with Sefolosha short-term. Jazz have gotten very little from the 4 though, with Favors being a cardboard cutout of his former self and JJ looking like he's already put in his papers for the Shady Oaks retirement community.
