Cut Dok and it also depletes center depth and rim protection which means more losses. We can have a good offense but it becomes pointless if our rim protection is the worst in the league that stat would lead to the worst record.. Centers are now easier to pick up. Get one next year.

Normally I’d be inclined to agree with you, however the length of his recovery time is a bit suspicious to me.

As bad as he’s been here at moments, the guy is definitely growing on me.

Still think he reminds me of a shorter, less defensively inclined, lower basketball IQ version of Boris Diaw. Body type and movement patterns are really similar. Too bad he doesn’t have 4 more inches.
 
Let's just be honest about Dok - he's injury-prone, he's never going to be able to shoot and he simply doesn't fit into what this league is in 2022. Would have been quite serviceable if this were 1995, but it's not.

I get why the FO liked him as a backup to simply grab boards and throw down some dunks as an energy guy, but we're here seven months later and he doesn't feel any closer to even being able to see the court. With Kessler onboard and the addition of Olynyk, there's simply no minutes for Dok.

Nobody likes cutting your first round pick from two years ago, but we already knew draft night that this was a mistake.

With that said if they cut Gay's $6mil ($12+mil over 2 years) or NAW's $5mil for this season then it becomes dead money. If they keep them on the roster they can combine their salary with another player to maybe bring back an asset or two. In Gay's case he's such a negative asset he would severely destroy any other value going out. Personally I'd try to buy him out even if Gay only gives back $3mil on the $12 they owe him. That contract wasn't a Danny Ainge mistake so maybe he could sell it to Smith that way. Ofc the team is going to be so bad maybe Smith isn't willing to eat Gay's salary. These guys don't become billionaires by typically doing that kind of stuff.

As a rebuilding team I'd much rather have the younger player Bolmaro as the 15th guy who at least has some degree of potential as this squad obviously needs an infusion of talent. Unfortunately looks like he's getting the ax.

He fits the NBA just fine. Theres still a huge need for big centers who can roll to the rim, defend the paint, and guard centers. It's just the health component that's holding him back from a solid 8 year career.
 
Over on the media page, Dan Clayton breaks it down as to who gets whacked. He concludes that Zeller, Johnson and Butler get waived and that Dok and Bolmaro escape the Turk. His reasoning is what is left on their contracts. He said his rationale would probably be different if the Jazz were contenders. Sarah Todd takes a different tact in the DN saying Dok is one of the guys to get pink slipped.

Butler isn’t getting waved. That’s the one thing I know.

With as many new skilled 7 footers coming into the league as there been recently (players that might actually play decent time as PF, making twin towers like the Wolves or Cavs a thing again), i say that there's an argument to be done that instead of the going small as It was once much talked because of Warriors (and D'Antoni's Rockets), league actually might go taller, and that potentially making the value of the less skilled bigs rise again because of new height needs

Not that i'm hopeful for Doke, If he is here once season starts it may come down basically to "there was cheaper contracts to cut"
 
Between now and Tuesday there is going to be a ton of player movement throughout the league. It kind of makes me wish that the Jazz only had 10-12 guaranteed contracts so they could go pick up the next JIngles off the dumpster pile.

Tony Bradley been in the NBA for 6 years. I don't know what else needs to be said that being tall and basic is still a needed thing.
