Can anyone please explain why Gobert isn't playing? From what little I've seen of him, I've been very impressed. How is the guy going to learn how to play by watching Biedrins? Beans is probably one of the worst players in the NBA and yet he's seeing time ahead of Rudy. And tell me why Harris is getting minutes ahead of Rudy. The guy is a D-League lifer. He does play hard and gives it everything he has, but he just isn't ever going to be a quality NBA player. Meanwhile, Rudy sits and watches the genius, Corbin, work his unseen magic.
 
Gobert too raw and not talent enough for play time. Crobins need put competitive on floor for teh win.
 
Otherwise we wouldn't have the comedy relief of watching the ball bounce off Bean's chest last night when he's trailing wide open on a fast break.

It's glaringly obvious that Biedrens is just going through the motions out there - he got his money. I don't even think he cares if he's in The NBA next year. He certainly won't be in Utah.
 
Hardly worse than Biedrins. You call playing Biedrins competing? Have you watched Gobert play? He actually can be a game changer on the defensive end when he gets PT. In any case, he needs to play.

Another guy we all said that he was too raw, etc, Jeremy, is showing this year that he's more capable than we had thought, but he never got PT before. So, whose fault was that? Call Dennis Lindsey and demand Corbin be removed -- 801-844-2701.

These (Biedrins and Harris over Gobert) are probably the two most inexplicable things I've seen from Corbin this season.
 
Simple. Playing Gobert in close games could hurt the tank. So unless it is 20-30 pts loss guaranteed he needs to ride the pine.
 
He is a rook and Kanter plays bad enough to be played over him. Smells like the Jazz routine coaching style to me.

If Gobert were 13 years older and was washed up...he'd get 25 minutes a game. It's just not his time right now.
 
There is already a function for sarcasm. Just wrap your sarcasm in brackets like this:

Yea, right now he has desire to improve and a hope of getting more time, attention, money. Once the jazz have drained him of both desire and hope then he will be ready, and when he is ready the master will appear and teach him the ways of the vet.
 
They want to reinvent Beans so they can trade him. If Beans succeeds, we have a nice trade piece. If Beans fails, we have a better tank.

I too would like to see Gobert play ahead of Beans, but I think the F/O is looking at it like "well we have Gobert for 4 yrs. guaranteed, and he wasn't even supposed to be as far along as he is and playing as much as he is, so cutting his minutes wouldn't hurt." It's the old "hard asset management" KOC used to talk about--which is kind of retard IMHO. We should always try to develop the guys we drafted, from day one. We should never say "well they're still young" and put it off until some unforeseen future.
 
Gobert is too tall to get consistent playing time. You definitely need to be short to succeed in teh basketballs.

Good post, but at the same time, how does this reflect on what Corbin is doing? Is he really not this dumb and just playing the role as instructed by the front office?

I agree with what you are saying, but don't agree with how you are characterizing KOC and DL's asset management philosophy: "because a player is further along than expected, they get less playing time"

It is more likely that DL believes that the Jazz and Gobert will be better off in 3-4 years if he is developed slowly, and allowing his strength and conditioning to develop with his skills.

Personally, I think the answer is somewhere in between. I see no logic in having him ride the bench, but also think he is nowhere near ready for regular 20+ minutes. I'd be playing him an average of 10-15 mpg.
 
So, any answer about Biedrins being played in order to up his trade value is probably bunk. I have come to realize that no matter how well Biedrins plays this season, his trade value will remain the same. He is an expiring contract, no more, no less.

The only really good argument for Gobert not playing is because he is just not that good right now. But neither is Biedrins, so whatever.
