What's new

Why so little interest in Embiid coming to Utah?

The idea of drafting him gives me kind of a boner too.

But the more sensible part of my brain says this is a 7 footer who couldn't make it through a full college season, and wound up with stress fractures in his back and foot, in addition to mysterious blood problems. Keep in mind he's been playing organized ball for three years, and his body already seems to be breaking down. That's a scary pick.

We can't afford to take such a high risk. The history of big men in the league with foot injuries not being able return to form should be enough to scare off any sensible GM.

I sort of disagree. Right now, we have many young players who need to be playing a lot of minutes each night in order for us to best assess them imo. Burke, Burks, Hayward if we match, Favors, Kanter, Gobert, even Neto. Drafting Embiid means getting the guy who was the consensus #1, sitting him for a year to ensure he gets fully healthy (easier said than done) and in doing so, allowing those aforementioned players to play and play a lot, while also getting a huge, huge asset. Hell, he could get re-injured in December and he would still be worth a ton. Draft the best guy on the board and rest him, and use 23 to get Early (especially if we don't match Hayward) and BPA at 35.

I think our hearts want someone so badly after having to wait a year for this moment but I think the smart move is to take the BPA at 5 and that is Embiid imo.

If we don't take him at 5 and the Celts and Lakers somehow both pass on him too, we need to get that 8th pick from the Kings by taking on every single awful contract they're looking to unload.

Only the Cavs and Bucks have seen his medical report and there are rumors that his bloodwork was troubling. If his condition wasn't serious, he would release the records to other teams. It appears he is trying to hide his medical condition, which strongly suggests that a team would be stupid to draft him.

Read a tweet yesterday that made sense. Guy said that Embiids agent is only giving the medical report to the teams that they want him to go to, so doesn't that mean that the news in the report is good?

I think fans are worried he will have injury problems throughout his career. If Vonleh goes to Orlando I say we draft Embiid.

The thing is if you don't have the medical reports, do you still take him? Apparently only top 3 teams and Lakers has the report.

I would still draft him but the Jazz may not.
