They could pick VJ, one of the few players in this draft with legit star potential.
I would argue that a win now team like philly probably values potential less than the other lottery teams that are in rebuild mode. I assume they would prefer sure thing win now pieces.
Now of course this is with the caveat that they still want to try to win now with Embiid who is 31 years old and never stays healthy. They might want to start a rebuild and keep that #3 piece. Just a year ago (year before last) embiid averaged 35 points and 11 rebounds per game. If they think he can still produce like that and think he can finally be healthy then they might want to take another run at winning the east. Lauri helps them more than PG in that scenario and is a much better asset due to age and cost. As I said, that PG contract is horrible and they should be desperate to get rid of it. They gotta pay to dump that albatross.

I think there is a fair amount of building pressure to still try and find big game so I agree to disagree. We are poorly positioned to do but I doubt the hunt is over. Trading Lauri and or taking on a contract like Dame's is waving the white flag - and admitting we blew it by putzing around in limbo for several years before committing to a path.
I believe that pressure is there and I believe you'll still have talking heads come out and say stuff like that, kind of like a hypothetical one-upping like when Ryan said we could do the Kevin Durant trade three times or whatever it was he said. The reality is, is that we don't have assets to hunt "big game." Unless our definition of big game would be someone like Zion or Trae Young.

I'd do something like:

Jazz receive: Paul George, #3 pick
76ers receive: Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, #21 pick, #43 pick

or
Jazz receive: Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, #2 pick, #14 pick
Spurs receive: Lauri Markkanen, #5 pick, #21 pick
Both of these are good for both sides and reasonable/make sense for both teams, IMO

I think Locke is rright. Lauri held off signing his deal and is not eligible to be traded until the next basketball year in the CBA which is well after the draft.

Lauri's deal has nothing to do with the basketball year and everything to do with a 6 month restriction. Lauri was ineligible to be traded at deadline because it was within 6 months, not because it was in the same basketball year.

I remember in the 14 draft when LBJ went back to Cleveland LBJ didn’t want Cleveland to trade the #1 pick and bring Love to Cleveland but I guess Love couldn’t be traded for a month or two, but everyone knew that in a month or so this trade would happen. It was no secret that a deal was in place just waiting for the day Love couldn’t be traded. So Lauri could still be involved in a draft day trade just can’t go through till the new calendar year starts for the upcoming season.

At some point, there's gonna be a real franchise-level reckoning on Lauri's terrible deal and how the Jazz have managed to completely fumble and destroy his value.

Heads should roll.

And no, he's not getting traded. Of course teams know that we tanked, but at this point, they still need a pretty big sample of Lauri playing a lot better to take that insane contract. I mean some dudes get paid and start sucking. It happens.

Are teams ready to bet that Lauri's nosedive was ONLY about the tank? Maybe he's just a guy who doesn't really have a passion for basketball and likes to chill with his $240 million?
