Public Opinion globally. If we can get other nations to see that we are willing to stop chemical weapon usage, that's great. But if we can get the people of the world to see that we're restraining ourselves to find a peaceful resolution instead of another vietnam/iraq, then we've got a HUGE, cost effective win without even firing a shot.

We have been working for 50+ years to try and convince others to be Democratic and free.

I don't think we really are having a good influence. If a country wants to be free, then it will choose to be so. If a country wants to be oppressive and obtain chemical weapons, then it will choose so.

Seriously, critical thinking skills here. Lets say we bomb the hell out of Assad. What's stopping him from developing or obtaining these weapons again? If he really wants them he's gonna get them. Your chances of stopping all gun murders in the USA is higher than stopping oppressive ME governments from obtaining weapons and killing each other.

I agree on focusing on our own problems. However that only serves so far. Isolationism is not the answer.

Isolationism is always the answer. And it always will be. Our FF never intended for us to be involved with all these alliances and use our own blood and treasury for these types of Eagle Scout projects.

The use of chemical weapons is something else entirely, and must be stopped. In my opinion, more so than nukes. Nothing is going to stop him from obtaining more. But this isn't a car of every time someone steps out of line chemical weapons are being used. There's not quite the track record to denote that there's 0 chance he's sincere about giving up his weapons.

We should not be policing the world, only ourselves.

You are one of the worlds super powers. The UN has clearly defined a specific type of warfare(chemical) as off limits. Someone in a country is using them. I have already posted in this thread where I stand. I will for you repeat myself.

As bad as Assad may be I believe the rebels look like they would be worse. There is nothing to be gained, from a humanitarian perspective, by weakening Assad. Look at how the US dealt with the Egypt/Israel problem. A carrot would have had more influence on Assad than the stick. Putin has his back and now the US is forced into a horrible position.

As for the world deciding that chemical weapons are out of bounds I'm pretty sure they have decided that child soldiers are out of bounds as well. I don't believe that the US is a puppet master, but I also don't believe that the US would get involved for purely humanitarian causes.( because we don't)

You're right. And we seem to think that our intervention into Syria will somehow make things better. Lol. Weaning Assad isn't a good thing. Unless you want to help Al Queda. Assad is an *** wipe. But I was trying to found conservative because conservatives love the FF and Constitution. Except when it's against something they want.
