Would DL keep his word?

In the past, we have seen some crazy stuff happen in the moratorium period. Flip flopping, etc. because the agreements are only verbal from July 1 until July 6. Do you think the following is possible? I don't think I have seen anyone mention this yet:

DL meets with Hill reps and Ingles reps before meeting with Hayward July 3rd. He verbally agrees to a contract with both of them. When DL meets with Hayward, he has that as leverage.

If Hayward stays because Ingles and Hill are coming back, most everybody seems happy with that.

If Hayward decides to go somewhere else, would DL consider cancelling those verbal agreements? Would we tell Hill $20 a year and then take it back if Hayward still leaves?

No, I don't think DL would cancel verbal agreements. It's a bad look to players and agents around the league. He's probably going to begin talks with Hill and Ingles by making things clear that any verbal agreements made are contingent on what happens with Hayward.

I agree.

This moratorium period is just crazy.

I doubt he would. That's not the way the Jazz do business and I don't think he would. I'm sure he would go all "Scarface" Tony Montana on this thread if he were reading it.

"I got two things in this world. My word and my balls. And I don't break them for anybody!"

Reneging on a verbal agreement. That wouldn't be good for Utah who already has the label of not being a place where highly sought after free agents go. That would burn some bridges. You fans have done a lot of that but if coming from the office it would be a death sentence

Dennis Lindsey is not Craig Waibel. Pure class. And look at the trend of RSL vs the Jazz...

Nope... Just listen to one conversation from Dennis and there is no part of his character that even suggests that's what he would do.

Bait and switch to sign Gordon. I'm sure that would build a lot of confidence around the league with players.

I do not think DL would go back on his word.

he is also smart enough to know that and I would imagine DL making commitments to them, Hill specifically, based on re-signing Hayward.

Kind of like "if Hayward signs we will offer you x amount of money for y years."

Nope.

There's a reason why, every off season, the biggest names and most productive players are dealt first. Teams, other players, and agents are all waiting to see what happens with the big names first - no deals can really get done before that.
