I wanna talk about this a little bit more. The Stepien Rule is sensible but the Jazz are at the mercy of it right now.We don't have two 1sts to send. We don't even have one to send, at least not until we start dipping into picks beyond 2025, and even then, at least one of those picks would have to be unprotected.
The Jazz don't have picks to trade. Royce is the closest thing the Jazz have to an asset like that.
Does anyone know if it's possible to alter a pick protection if the receiving team agrees? Like, if the Jazz offered to make the pick an unprotected 2022 pick straight up? That would give them their pick this year to trade mid-season (which would also be in play around the draft whether there was an alteration on the Conley pick protection because they can just select then trade the player like they did in the 2019 draft).
Until and unless something like that happens, there is a world of trade possibilities that the Jazz can't even have a conversation about.
